Aldosterone is a mineralocorticoid hormone, involved in the handling of sodium and potassium, in the regulation of blood pressure and blood volume. It is produced in the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal gland. This hormone is part of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Its absence produces hyperaldosteronism, characterzed by low blood pressure and increased potassium concentration in the blood. Its excess can produce secondary hypertension and low potassium concentration in the blood
