The Boroughts: The Stranger things with elderly.
I finished watching last week "The Boroughs," a new series from the Duffer Brothers production. This 8-episode season tries to explore a bit more of the formula that made the Duffer Brothers famous: a supernatural adventure. But here, in this case, they try to be creative instead of using kids, maybe another age sector that people usually doubt about their stories and experiences: the elderly. But it looks like that audience got a bit tired of the formula, and I just read that the show was cancelled and no season 2 is coming.

The Duffer Brothers are trending at the moment. After the end of the Stranger Things show, they released the animation series with new stories about this universe, a miniseries that I reviewed a while ago: "Something bad is about to happen," and now The Boroughs. Netflix decided to just renew the Stranger Things animation; did they get it right doing that?
The Boroughs is about a group of 5 retired people who are living in a beautiful community in the middle of the desert for the elderly. They have their independence and activities. But a monster keeps coming during the night to suck cerebrospinal fluid from the elderly, reducing their lifespan and being the cause of their death. The story develops after some investigative period of time until we realize that these monsters are associated with the administration of the place, old people who look young for their real age.
The story brings some curiosity and suspense until the whole pieces are put together. That happens around the 5th or 6th episode. After that is the fight of the elderly group to dismantle the administration and fix the place. The show also deals with interesting topics like love in that moment of life and people still living and how to deal with the possibility of finding a cure for a terminal cancer patient. We have famous actors who probably were forgotten for a while, like Bill Pullman and Geena Davis. Maybe the last movie that I watched with Bill Pullman was Independence Day. It's been a while. But he is one of the people who dies and motivates the search for the answer by the group of elderly people. And Geena is basically Thelma from "Thelma and Louise"; also, she starred in the original Beetlejuice from the end of the 80s and other famous movies from that era. But other actors like Alfred Molina can be recognized; he was Dr.Octopus in Spider-Man 2, the one with Tobey Maguire.

The ending gives closure to this story, so I think it is fine to end the show. Maybe even the story for the next 2 seasons that they were thinking about; the idea wasn't so great. The real story behind the cancellation we will never know. I just like this type of topic and would watch it anyway, even finding the ending too predictable.

The Boroughs conta a história de um grupo de cinco aposentados que vivem em uma bela comunidade no meio do deserto, destinada à terceira idade. Eles têm sua independência e atividades. Mas um monstro aparece durante a noite para sugar o líquido cefalorraquidiano dos idosos, reduzindo sua expectativa de vida e causando suas mortes. A história se desenvolve após um período de investigação até descobrirmos que esses monstros estão associados à administração do local, idosos que aparentam ser mais jovens do que realmente são.
A história mantém a curiosidade e o suspense até que todas as peças se encaixem. Isso acontece por volta do quinto ou sexto episódio. Depois disso, vem a luta do grupo de idosos para desmantelar a administração e reformar o local. A série também aborda temas interessantes como o amor nessa fase da vida, as pessoas que ainda estão vivas e como lidar com a possibilidade de encontrar a cura para um paciente com câncer terminal. Temos atores famosos que provavelmente estavam esquecidos há algum tempo, como Bill Pullman e Geena Davis. Talvez o último filme que assisti com Bill Pullman tenha sido Independence Day. Já faz um tempo. Mas ele é uma das pessoas que morre e motiva a busca por respostas pelo grupo de idosos. E Geena é basicamente a Thelma de "Thelma e Louise"; ela também estrelou o Beetlejuice original do final dos anos 80 e outros filmes famosos daquela época. Mas outros atores como Alfred Molina também podem ser reconhecidos; Ele era o Dr. Octopus em Homem-Aranha 2, aquele com Tobey Maguire.
O final dá um desfecho à história, então acho que está tudo bem encerrar a série. Talvez até a história para as próximas duas temporadas que eles estavam planejando; a ideia não era tão boa. A verdadeira história por trás do cancelamento, nunca saberemos. Eu simplesmente gosto desse tipo de tema e assistiria de qualquer maneira, mesmo achando o final previsível demais.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
