To add to your research:

The library of Alexandria was established by Ptolemy who was a childhood friend and general of Alexander the Great. It is likely that Ptolemy knew or even studied under Aristotle. The Ptolemaic kings were experts at astronomy. They calculated the circumference of the globe and developed a decent calendar.

The last ruler in the line of the Ptolemaic kings was a lady named Cleopatra. She had an affair with Julius Caesar who used the works of Ptolemy to create the Julian Calendar.

The first head librarian of the Library of Alexandria was a man named Euclid who wrote books on optics and geometry.

Libraries aren't just luxuries. They are a key to Western civilization.

The Library of Alexandria translated the Hebrew Torah into Greek which is the origins of the Christian Bible which is from the Greek word βιβλία (in Latin biblìa) which means booklet.

Apparently, most of the works in the library of Alexandria were on papyrus which has a problem with rotting.
