STEMGeeks and the STEM Token

avatar
(Edited)

If you haven't heard, I started a new Steem Engine tribe called STEMGeeks. STEMGeeks is a community focused on Science Technology Engineering Math (aka STEM).

STEMGeeks has its own token called STEM that you can find on Steem-Engine.

STEMGeeks has its own customized condenser (front-end) available at https://stemgeeks.net and you can find it under Steempeak's tribe functionality as well.

Why use STEMGeeks and not Steem?

STEMGeeks is Steem, but https://stemgeeks.net focuses on the STEM niche only and has its own token that is rewarded in addition to STEEM. You can also earn STEM passively by purchasing and staking STEMM tokens which are also available on Steem-Engine.

STEM was initially distributed through an airdrop and additional STEM can be earned through proof of brain (posting content and curating) and proof of stake (mining).

840,960 STEM tokens are created yearly through inflation (initially 8.41%). 672,768 (80% of inflation) will power the proof of brain reward pool and 168,192 (20% of inflation) will be available to users who have STEMM miner tokens staked. The inflation is reduced by 3% each year until it stabilizes around 2%.

Staking STEM tokens will increase your influence of the reward pool distribution similar to how Steem Power works. There are currently 536 users with STEM staked within the first 5 days of going live. I would love to see this number reach 1,000 users.

There are currently 174,478.803 STEM tokens staked by the community.

What type of content is good for STEMGeeks?

  • Science
  • Space Exploration
  • Gadgets
  • Technology Innovations
  • Blockchain Technology
  • Programming & Development
  • Mathematics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Machine Learning
  • Maker (i.e. Raspberry Pi & Arduino)
  • 3D Printing
  • Mobile Phone Technology
  • Medical Advances
  • Robotics
  • Computing

The above are some suggestions but is not a comprehensive list. You can read this post for more information.

Earn STEM tokens passively

As STEMGeeks is a new tribe, it has fewer staked miners than most tribes. By acquiring and staking STEMM tokens, you are able to earn STEM passively through the mining pool. 20% of all inflation will go to staked mining token holders.

Miner Tokens Staked:

TribeMiner Units Staked
STEM1807
SCT283,834
LEO31,950
PAL2,847
WEED1,072
GG938
ZZAN3,714

Mining tokens can be un-staked and re-sold at any point.

You can also earn STEM by delegating to the @stembot voting bot.

Bounties

The STEMGeeks team (currently me) has allocated a generous portion of the initial supply to bounties Up to 4M tokens of the initial 10M supply is allocated to contests, rewards, promotion, onboarding, and bounties.

Burning tokens to reduce inflation

Currently, all rewards on the main @stemgeeks account and @stemcuration accounts are being burned. This includes post rewards and curation rewards. The curation account @stemcuration only has 50K STEM staked and will only vote occasionally (currently once or twice every few days with a very small percentage (1-10%). I plan to impact the reward pool as little as possible.

All bids (done in STEM) to @stembot voting bot are burned except for what goes out to delegators.

Onboarding

One of the goals of STEMGeeks is to provide a new unique way to onboard users to the Steem community. I am looking at opportunities to use STEMGeeks to get new users onboard. I am open to suggestions and can be reached on Discord. Once the dust settles I plan on devoting some time to this.

Got ideas?

Reach out on Discord and hit me up.

Surprisingly seems to be the opposite. The announcement had a bit of drama.

Note that the drama was not coming from the steemstem team, but instead from a few individuals.

In another stemgeeks post I read that you didn't have to post from the stemgeeks.net website but could post from any steem platform using the STEM tag. Is that true or do you have to post from stemmgeeks.net?

I'm a bit lost. Geek Rewards and Steem Geek is not the same ? There is a big aidrop of Geek Rewards and in the discription of the token I see also :

GEEK tokens rewards content creators for their intelligent contributions to the community.

The idea seems a bit similar, but maybe it's not the same, or it is ?

STEMGeeks is the front end for the STEM token and has no affiliation with GEEK token or SteemSTEM.

Wonderful! I wish you the best of success. It is good to have another tribe. The more the better!

Interesting! So I know where to post all my blockchain related articles.

Here's a question. Can an article on blockchain and investing on that blockchain project allow me to tag, #Stem, #Palnet and #Steemleo. All are different platforms.

That doesn’t have anything to do with STEM.

But blockchain technology for sure, right? My earlier posts on blockchain will cover technology, adoption and investing methods.

Anyway, my question was Stem wouldn't have an issue with me tagging two other platforms for the same (qualifying) article, right?

Investing is not stem and it would be like saying Cooking requires measurements so it is math.

Blockchain technology is borderline. If it is on technology and cool uses sure if it is on crypto’s and tokens no.

I think a stem tribe is a great idea. Stem content is quite hard to find on Steemit. I am guessing it is mostly buried under the nonsense that gets exposure. A stem tribe will give it more exposure. The tribes use of tags is good. Prior to the tribes, tags had very little meaning on Steem. I look forward to a bustling level of activity here soon.

For more academic stuff, I would check out @SteemSTEM.

The Tribe is great because we get to see amateur content, which can be easier to relate...for me at least.

Steemstem is pretty good. I've had a few of my economics posts upvoted by their team. I think having a tribe is good as well. The audience for the less formal academic content is quite large. We should be able to see a better audience to content creator ratio here.

That is untrue. @steemstem also supports amateur content if it meets our guidelines (references, image copyrights, etc.).

Ok, fair enough.

STEMGeeks have less rules compared to @steemstem when it comes to the format, etc.

I don't find any exciting news in this token. The token fluid is already coming and adding more tokens in this. If they don't find any major value all are dead.

They are just encash the time of tokens. I don't see any major scope for this kind of tokens already so many tokens on steem-engine. They don't hear your voice only ruling the concept. If you want to invest in ruling things, just join this and enjoy the token pumping and dumping behavior.

I don't see any major scope for this kind of tokens

Well, probably because you don't post any STEM related stuff...like ever?

I love the idea but the token and miner names are a bit cringy imo (stem, stemm) won't help with the confusion people already have with steem and steem dollar for instance.

Every time I try and use steemd.com to look up my comments and stuff, they never seem to appear anymore, & I get this message below instead:

7E405D1C-DA63-4647-9AAF-35608DA84FD7.jpeg

And then I always get this message too!

I also always run into this message below!

#Time for me to stop voting for them for witness, I think they are corrupt! Must be the global blacklist or something else going on!
CADE110B-13A3-43D4-8A6E-D27D5BBBC83C.jpeg

I only vote for 2 witnesses, now this new removal will take me down to one! Un-Voting @steemd in the morning if my stuff is still broken! I will add @parriko for witness to replace @steemd! This is getting ridiculous, there is not going to be any way for me to access my account any more if everybody keeps blocking me like this! #onmyown! Seriously this is all @themarkymark’s fault! He’s the one doing all this to me, slandering me calling me the troll. Truth is he’s way worse than me, and he is the real troll! Just go look at the vote history and see how irresponsible he is flagging all my posts for months. Pretty soon I’m just going to concentrate on downvoting everybody who votes for @themarkymark for witness, no excuses! I’m going to start making my list!

Also anybody I see voting for him will be eligible for my downvote too! I don’t know what else to do but try to get rid of him as a witness! So if anybody out there wants to help, just make sure you don’t vote for @themarkymark for witness! That would help me a lot! Here is an example below from today.
9404650E-CC50-4E71-A2A2-A62BADF22A37.png

Someone send me a list of everyone voting for markymark! I’m going to have to go after them one by one! Heres another:

E2CE5126-E250-4FC9-A5A4-6E7EE19ED6DA.png And another:
3645547A-9032-41DF-A4F8-85E94DB5A042.png I downvote people, but not like this, this is different. Here’s another:
F229D5BC-8EBD-47C0-9A17-4225B25A265A.png This is why I downvote anyone talking to him! Here’s another one:
3AE7E91E-09CF-4C17-8825-3D33CB2C89EC.png He’s the problem troll here, not me! I’m just defending myself! Get rid if him whatever it takes! Somebody do something about that maniac! I’m not giving in. I could go on all night with these screenshots, but I’m tired and have to fo to bed now! Good night!
Ok I guess I got time for one more, he even downvotes my sunset photography:
1FC711B8-DA1C-498A-9605-96A38A17BFDB.png
In the morning I’m just going to add more and just keep posting this over and over every single day as the list grows until somebody helps me out and listens! Goodnight!
