On this weeks show we were joined by @mckenziegary to discuss a topic which he had messaged us about... Human Centered Artificial Intelligence.

What this entails is artificial intelligence which is designed to assist with day to day human tasks, enhancing the human experience and giving us the freedom form the burden of the mundane... lol.

But where are the pitfalls of this technology ? how can we predict the outcome on humanity ? on societal norms ? The impact of human interaction based around such technology ? we delve into this during the show from a number of angles.

The first understanding we have to face is how the human condition interacts with other beings and objects, this is that we project ourselves on to others, we tray and quantify outcomes and behaviors based on the perspective of our selves. For instance if we see a monkey using a tool we think they are "acting like us" when in reality the monkey is just being a monkey.

We also subscribe thoughts and feelings in the same way, sometimes even to inanimate objects. This projection can lead to a degree of unease as we begin to over analyze the meaning WE give to the objective reality.

This construct can be observed when we look at films which imply when Artificial Intelligence becomes "self aware" it would destroy humanity. the Terminator franchise, west world, and iRobot to name only a few.

On the other side of the coin we have the concept of love and attraction to beings designed to care and nurture us, if these beings are indeed sentient, self aware , what rights should they have ? should they be allowed to be married to one another... and what about to humans? what would the stand point be on these who what to be in a relationship with their AI ?

This kind of dilemma is the focus of a film entitled "Her" where a man falls in love with his AI operating system. While this may be a case of "its just a movie" many times we find that science fiction becomes science nonfiction given enough time... the star trek communicator (smart phone) comes to mind.

And what about cyborgs? a combination of human and technology to enhance performance and ability, to extend human life beyond natural life cycles ? science fiction i hear you say ? well you may be surprised that this kind of thing has been in the making for a good number of years and with varying degrees of success.

We cover this and much more in the weekly Coffee and Philosophy show, the recording of which can be found at Coffee and Philosophy Ep.77.

If these kinds of topics and discussion are of interest I strongly recommend checking the schedule for Coffee and Philosophy and joining us in the live chat on the P.A.L Discord, so you can interact with us as well as the audience and help guide the conversation.
