As per my experience who has changed jobs across continents and across cultures, the key is to identify key words. The automated systems or professional recruiters like to find keywords included in the job postings. Once you know what they are looking for, your job is to weave the required key words into your cover letter and resume. Once they select you on the first round, then only you would be able to explain what you know and what you are capable of based on your years of experience.
So, identify key words that explain your job.
