Web3 is still a decade out and we have no idea what the metaverse or anything related to it will look like. So I understand why they want to fund things but we have no idea if it will even be used in the future.

I do not think that corporate companies will take a step without detailed research and examination. They take steps because they believe in certain things and think they will happen. Some companies even make plans for the next 25 years.

I think they can invest in things without detailed research if the chance of profits is higher than losses. After all, they need the numbers to show to their investors.
