I think it's funny, much like what your brother went through with a female he knew who "hated guns" but never used it then one day asked him to go to the range out of the blue. It's funny that sometimes people who are so against something are doing it out of fear of the unknown and some bad information.
It's good to see that your friend is warming up to the idea. You'll have to post an update (that I'll hopefully manage to see) and ask him, at some point in the conversation, what turned them into it versus further away from it!
I'm hoping to get some people and friends I know into it, but it's not going anywhere just yet. I know they will eventually come knocking and inquire what it's all about. Better late than never but they should get into it and start exploring early!
