My AI Ethics Experience - The Need for Incorporating Cutting-Edge AI Ethics into Education

Hi!

Over the last few weeks of Dec. 2023, I've decided to jump in and give a chance, some time and energy to this London School of Economics and Political Science course about AI Ethics.

Source and find more here and here also. And I'm writing this article not to vouche for its quality or quantity or information offered, but to talk about the importance of such e-learning services that offer general information without covering the most important up-to-date one.

The AI is taking huge proportions daily through the data we input and we freely offer by using different (some even free) services using AI tech. So, it's only normal that the ethical landscape of artificial intelligence continues to evolve and I find it crucial for more and more people to be given the access (even a free one) for educational initiatives to adapt and address these ethical implications of cutting-edge AI applications.

SO:

In this article I want to put a spotlight on the London School of Economics (LSE) Ethics of AI online course, highlighting the absence of in-depth exploration of emerging AI technologies and advocating for their inclusion to better equip participants to navigate the complex ethical challenges of AI deployment.

Let me Give You A Course Recap:
The LSE Ethics of AI online course spans three weeks, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical considerations surrounding AI deployment. Through three modules, the course examines AI's impact on governance, corporate dynamics, and societal structures.

Module 1: AI and Governance: Exploring Democracy, Legitimacy, and Transparency
The initial module delves into the ethical implications of AI within governance frameworks, grounding discussions in democratic theory and administrative power dynamics.

Module 2: AI and Business: Unraveling Algorithmic Bias and Inequality
The second module scrutinizes AI's influence on business operations, focusing on issues of algorithmic bias and its impact on corporate dynamics.

Module 3: AI and Society: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities
The final module widens the scope to examine the societal implications of AI deployment, encompassing topics such as global governance and corporate social responsibility.

Allow Me to Start Addressing the Gap:
While the course provides a solid foundation in AI ethics principles, it lacks a comprehensive examination of cutting-edge AI applications and their ethical implications. To bridge this gap, the course should integrate discussions on emerging AI technologies such as autonomous vehicles, facial recognition technology, and AI-driven healthcare systems.

How About AI and Autonomous Vehicles?
While China abandons its electric cars, the global trend is for adoption, so Tesla might start the monopoly on that. Even so, the rise of autonomous vehicles presents ethical dilemmas related to liability, decision-making algorithms, and moral reasoning behind AI-driven actions. By exploring these complexities in a course like that, participants can gain insights into the ethical considerations of autonomous driving.

Danging! Facial Recognition Technology. Let's Look Into That!
Facial recognition technology fks up my vagus nerve and not just mine, for sure, it raises concerns about privacy, fairness, and bias, particularly against marginalized communities. Design a course to adress that and AI ethics, data and ownership! Analyzing real-world examples and ethical frameworks specific to facial recognition technology can deepen participants' understanding of its ethical implications.

How about Healthcare and AI-Driven Healthcare Systems?
Design a course about Ethics in AI and data, rights, subscription models :)) (really) and accesibility to those services around the world. AI-driven healthcare systems offer opportunities for improved diagnosis and patient care but also pose challenges regarding data privacy, algorithmic transparency, and equitable resource distribution. We need a course with real policies that we expect to be included globally, with laws that were adopted, initiatives that were sent over WEF and Davis, and others so that we know what to expect. By examining those and even case studies and ethical guidelines in healthcare AI, course participants can navigate the ethical complexities of AI deployment in healthcare settings.

Tools for Truth - About Enhancing the Course Curriculum:
To integrate cutting-edge AI applications into the course, dedicated modules or supplementary materials should be introduced. These materials should include case studies, ethical frameworks, and expert insights specific to emerging AI technologies.

Case Studies:
Incorporating case studies of real-world applications of autonomous vehicles, facial recognition technology, and AI-driven healthcare systems would provide participants with tangible examples of ethical dilemmas and decision-making processes.

Ethical Frameworks:
Exploring ethical frameworks tailored to cutting-edge AI applications can help participants navigate the unique challenges posed by emerging technologies, fostering ethical consciousness and responsible AI practices.

Expert Insights:
Inviting guest speakers or subject matter experts to share their experiences in the field of cutting-edge AI applications would enrich the course content and provide diverse perspectives on ethical considerations.

Societal Importance:
Integrating cutting-edge AI applications into the Ethics of AI curriculum is essential for preparing participants to address the ethical challenges of AI deployment in the modern world. As AI continues to advance, it's imperative that ethical education keeps pace, ensuring that individuals are equipped to navigate the ethical complexities of AI technologies and advocate for responsible AI practices.

There! My 2 Cents.
Incorporating cutting-edge AI applications into a course on Ethics of AI is HIGHLY IMPORTANT for the times we are living, for the shift we are going through, for the reset, for providing participants with a comprehensive ...complex understanding of AI ethics. By filling the void and addressing the ethical implications of emerging AI technologies, the course can better prepare individuals to navigate the ethical challenges of AI deployment and contribute to the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies in society.

Thanks for reading!

Zpek
