Optimizing Trades Through @splinterlands and Investing in PWR

avatar

I believe the optimal holistic financial results come from the right mix of short term trading and long term HODLing. Focusing on only one will give overall suboptimal results. Day trading will result in the highest financial gains at the cost of higher risk, time commitment and stress. Cryptosphere being active 24/7 means that there will be trades available at any time on any day at some CEX, DEX or even OTC. The other side of this coin is the low effort HODLing (ideally while generating yield) which comes at the cost of lower ROI.

Since $HIVE price has been going up every few days during the recent times, there are many opportunities to conduct some trades similar to what I did few days ago. I buy and sell small amounts of cryptocurrency at least few times a week while keeping most of my portfolio in a staked form earning passive income. When there is a sudden increase (a pump) in price, I take some profits and buy DEC.

Perks of Being on @splinterlands

DEC is soft pegged to $0.001 with price being a lot more volatile than regular stablecoins. In many occasions, this allows the DEC price to be generally stable during small crashes in cryptosphere while experiencing small gains while the markets are going up. I don't have to HODL this DEC either. I have 58 Plots in Praetoria that can use DEC to earn various resources. Currently this is limited to Grain, Research and SPS. I prefer to focus on SPS as much as possible.

There are many ways new players can get started with the game and start earning rewards. This includes SPS which has been going up since August. There are marketing initiatives getting ready to be deployed. I think Guild Brawls and similar activities can get a lot more attention in 2025.

My Best Performance in Brawls in a Long Time

Roaring Twenties is the exact type of Guild I want to be a part of. We are casual players and serious investors. Every 5 days, we earn some SPS + MERITS and enjoy some other earning bonuses for being a part of a Guild with high level Buildings. Eventually there will be a time to take some of these profits.

Stablecoins Are Easy To Sell

If you think there is a chance the markets will go up, it could be a good time to sell. On the day I made the sale, DEC price had remained stable while $HIVE was down by a few percentage points.

@splinterlands team and the developers of HIVE-Engine has a large overlap. These two tools work great together and there were times where I used DEC bridges to transfer assets without paying any fees. IIRC this was between STEEM and HIVE.

Make Sure to Compare Prices

Tribaldex has Diesel Pools which can be thought of as a superior version of Uniswap V2 Pools. Originally these had no fees whatsoever. Later a small fee was added to incentivize liquidity providers. It is possible to exchange more for your crypto or even perform arbitrage trades by comparing the prices on order books versus Diesel Pools.

PWR is Better* Than HIVE

Does any of my readers remember SEED? It was an investment project by @empoderat which was working out fine until regulatory and fiscal uncertainty caused by the corrupt, incompetent governments that put too many roadblocks against small investors trying to be rich.

And as I keep researching the subject I realize more and more that I am (we are) completely fenced off in this matter. When setting up the initial structure of the project, I thought of doing it through a DAO, an idea that I discarded after a short time of research. Given that the SEED model is "hybrid", a DAO as a governmental structure does not give me the flexibility to manage SEED as I wish. - Source

HIVE Power Ventures

The link above will take you to the GitBook page of the project. It is extremely detailed to the point where even a newcomer to HIVE can figure things out. Tentative Roadmap for 2025 was released 3 days ago and I decided to use DEC to buy some PWR.

  • In practice and for the time being, it means that I will no longer use project funds to ‘prevent’ the price from rising above the 1:1 ratio with HIVE.
  • However, I will continue to hold the price at 1:1 in case it falls below.

Above quote is taken from the roadmap as a simple explanation to why I think PWR is better than HIVE. There is going to be some price volatility. What is important is that there is very limited downside compared to the upside. I decided to use some of my other funds to buy more PWR. I use @uswap to bridge HIVE between Layer 1 and Layer 2. On this trade, I was paid to swap my HIVE into SWAP.HIVE. These rewards and fees are based on the available liquidity on @uswap. There are other services that make the same offering. None of them offer as good of a deal as @uswap.

Good post! Btw, how's the card market these days? Haven't been trading SPL cards in ages and was wondering if there's still activity? For example, are unlocked reward cards getting sold?

The Card prices have not been as volatile as SPS. I don't check Card prices regularly either.

are unlocked reward cards getting sold?

Yes, but only few are getting unlocked and sold in the market. There aren't enough players to create sufficient demand yet. This could be a good thing for the future as Cards won't be able to be unlocked after some time.

Thanks for your insights! I'm thinking about whether it's worth it to pay for unlock and put a few cards for sale. Whenever I get a gold foil, I wanna sell the regular ones
