RE: The Hantavirus outbreak: some updates after one week.

The Andean hantavirus is peculiar in that it can spread in humans. That long incubation period is a huge problem because it allows it to spread long before the person can end up in quarantine. I've dealt with hantavirus in the southwestern US around the four corners are, it's a scary virus. Not too long ago it killed Gene Hackman's wife as they lived in Santa Fe and must have had mice. Mice and rats have to be handled expeditiously and their dropping treated with 50% bleach solution before cleanup.

I hope this is the end of this particular outbreak, but it goes to show you just how scary this class of virus is. Here in the US we are lucky that the strain can't spread between people, but it carries a 50% mortality rate and we still don't have any treatments for any of the viruses.

Last thing we need is a pandemic of hantavirus after dealing with COVID...
