Well, I can’t say I’m shocked that our new technology and advanced knowledge in DNA has stirring up a controversy again because that's just how science really is, it's progressive and what you thought was the truth or even fact can change later on.

This time the DNA controversy is about Christopher Columbus. Columbus is regarded as an iconic symbol of Italian exploration but we recently found out that he might actually be from Spain and even possibly a Jewish person.

That changes the whole history story of America. For centuries, we’ve all thought and agreed that Columbus was Genoese, even when some things about his life didn’t quite add up. This is what students were taught in school.

His letters, his will, his strange syntax, all of it was not adding up at all. Now, thanks to science, we’re finally figuring out and realizing the real truth.

When I first heard about the DNA results suggesting Columbus might have Sephardic Jewish roots I was very surprised because I did history and my history teacher taught with such confidence the old truth.

This has already started a serious controversy because here’s a guy whose legacy has been debated endlessly and now we’re learning he might not have been who we thought he was in the first place. So let this be a lesson to you that yes, history is not always written correctly.

Those with the loudest voices and apparently royal court documents can easily shape history for all of us and we'll believe it. One guy in an interview said, if someone tells you the sky is red and no ones argues it, that guy ends up becoming right Even if that's not the real truth. That's exactly what has been happening with history. Don't believe everything you here about how things happened in the past.

I studied history and kept asking myself whether all that I'm reading is from reliable those sources and this new findings has made me even more skeptical about all my history lessons.

But I also do not fully believe these new DNA findings just like that without more research and more evidence shown to the general public.

They weren’t published in a peer-reviewed journal, and that’s a red flag for me. Now we're left with more questions than answers.

Why are they keeping the science so vague like that? What are they really hiding from us and even if this DNA evidence is true, what does it change, really?

Regardless we're left with the complex legacy of a man celebrated by some and condemned by others. All of history could have been different if we had advanced technologies and better evidence stored.
