Thanks for the tag but honestly I haven't tried to use the tag free compliments yet. May I know where or what kind of post it is applicable? I know every tag has meaning and purpose and we can't use them in everything.

You can use them on https://leofinance.io/threads - whenever you give a compliment to someone, just use the tag.
I think once we figure out how to track all the Threads, we'll be able to curate and count the tags correctly again. This was a disappointing change and kind of messed up the contest we had planned (and the tags were all showing at the time the contests were announced!).

I have never used that tag in Threads yet. But now that I know how to use it, I'll start using it today.
How to count tags... It's quite tedious, but there is a way to count tags by checking the "comments" of all community members in another frontends (Hive.blog or Ecency etc.) for a month. But it may be difficult because there are so many members💦
Yes, please do! :) Although we'll still be working on the counts.
I think a database extraction is indeed the best method to remove the manual aspect, but it still takes figuring out. Additionally, the curation becomes tricky.
What can I say? It's all a work in progress.
