We’re about to send out our monthly rewards, and are requesting some information so that you’ll get rewarded properly.

The #freecompliments Tag on Threads

Over the past month, the LeoFinance UI changed the way that we’re able to view tags on Threads. Currently, we’re only able to view parent threads which mention a tag, but not child threads (child threads are replies). For instance, if someone posts a new Thread that uses the tag, it will be visible to us; however, if someone posts a reply to a Thread using the tag, we won’t see it unless we just happen to come across it.

Thus, we haven’t been able to keep count of how many tags each individual user has made.

I have asked the LeoFinance Team to make child threads visible to us so that we can curate and count those as part of our monthly rewards. I’ve already done so a few times and will continue to pester them (in a friendly way) until this change takes place. I’ve been using Threads since the beginning and plan to continue, and I think that this is an important piece of our program.

Tell Us How Many Times You’ve Used the #freecompliments Tag in Threads

Since we’re not able to view or count the tags properly, we’ll rely on an honor system for all of our users to let us know how many times you’ve used the tag. While we’re working on ways to be able to search for all threads with this tag (using the HiveSQL database), we still haven’t found a way to do so. This is our temporary solution.

Please write here how many times you’ve used the tag and we’ll honor your word and reward you appropriately (rounding up slightly, as per our usual method). Naturally, if you write something like 5,000 times, we’ll know you’re messing around… although it would be really amazing if we can reach such levels in the future!

This will be included as part of our monthly engagement contest, so please be honest! If we had anticipated the changes in the LeoFinance UI, we likely would have deferred the creation of this contest until we could keep track of all tags.

This month, we haven’t clearly seen which members were directly referred by whom, so please let us know whether you successfully got someone to join the community! Remember that each referral earns 2 HSBI and qualifies for our monthly promotion contest.

This method appears to capture tag in parent and child.

A great start! However, this poses 2 problems: 1) having to search through users one by one; 2) if someone only used the tag in replies, we'd never know unless we've already come across them in the first place.

This is where a database search becomes truly essential.

If only I knew how many times I used the tag, but I really never count. I try to post one daily as parent at least, but I that never quite materialises 😉

Hopefully Leofinance will show all the tags at some point again. We miss this feature while curating hivegarden tags too 🙈

Looking at some database analysis which we got, it's a decent amount more! You actually have some between two accounts, which i recall you told me you'd use. Rewards coming soon. :D

Yesss, I go on a #freecompliments spree every now and again on my alt, mainly in replies on threads, as my alt is where all my Leo tokens are staked, so I mainly curate with that alt.

I also started using the tag occasionally in waves. Not sure if you’re planning to incorporate those as well, but I thought I’d spread the love nonetheless 😉

Thanks for the tag but honestly I haven't tried to use the tag free compliments yet. May I know where or what kind of post it is applicable? I know every tag has meaning and purpose and we can't use them in everything.

You can use them on https://leofinance.io/threads - whenever you give a compliment to someone, just use the tag.

I think once we figure out how to track all the Threads, we'll be able to curate and count the tags correctly again. This was a disappointing change and kind of messed up the contest we had planned (and the tags were all showing at the time the contests were announced!).

I have never used that tag in Threads yet. But now that I know how to use it, I'll start using it today.

How to count tags... It's quite tedious, but there is a way to count tags by checking the "comments" of all community members in another frontends (Hive.blog or Ecency etc.) for a month. But it may be difficult because there are so many members💦

Yes, please do! :) Although we'll still be working on the counts.

I think a database extraction is indeed the best method to remove the manual aspect, but it still takes figuring out. Additionally, the curation becomes tricky.

What can I say? It's all a work in progress.

Well i stopped using threads about three weeks ago as the bugs make it very difficult and frustrating to use & i don't get replies to feedback. i'll test it again every couple of weeks and hope they do eventually fix the bugs.

So, no freecompliments tags for me to report.

i've been watching some excellent healing series btw these last 3 weeks.

The bugs probably take time to squash, so it's a wise move to recheck every so often. I recall how it was several months ago... and it's a heck of a lot better now! Certainly not perfect, but it's progress.

Feel free to share your thoughts about the series here, by the way. I'm certain it'll catch some people who who can benefit.

EDIT: In the last 18days (couldn't search further in the past using Leofinance search) I used the tag 72 times. So probably about 90-100 in the last 30 days. I'm ofcourse totally fine if you would just use the 72 as this is a certainty and not a guess

For now, just in Threads, although I think we'll be expanding this in the future. For now, one piece at a time. ;)

Yeah, that's kind of strange... through a database search, we can also only go back about 19 days, and it shows 58 tags (maybe there was something double-counted to reach 72). With some other users, the cut-off is a different date - even hive-140084 only stats on 9/6 or so. Might be a user interface issue, since the programmers are constantly adjusting it when making updates.

Regardless, I'll going to try to adjust this as best as I can! Thanks so much for letting me know.

I still like the vibe of Threads a bit more, plus I find it much quicker and easier on the eye. Waves is broader in scope since it includes other short-form content, however.

For now, we're just counting the ones on Threads, but there's a good chance that we'll expand further in the future. Threads itself a quite fun though! It's a nice change from the long-form posts that we see on the rest of Hive.

Admittedly, I have not used the tag yet, or even made a post in the community! I've been meaning to make one for women wednesday, especially since I helped contribute to the theme. But my composition requires some time and deep thought, so it's not ready yet.

I wish I knew how to help with all the tag tracking but when it comes to knowing those things I am clueless. Sometimes I look up tags on hive and can't even find my own posts that used them. 🤷‍♀
