I almost never talk on the phone and actually get annoyed when I have to do it. If you aren't related to me, or if what you are trying to say to me isn't urgent, I feel like sending a message is better.
but I do agree with the sentiment above. The lack of talking has negatively affected humanity as a whole. I do make a point to have face to face encounters with people often and I will get on their case if the people try to involve their phones in our interaction.

Phones are great even if it is just to catch up with an old friend but it is rude to check your phone when talking with someone face to face as it shows disinterest even if it is unintentional. If it is not urgent then yes a message is ok.
