What are your thoughts on AI?

The future and unstoppable

Yay or Nay?

Irrelevant question, we will have no means to stop technology advancements. We may delay it by forbid developments. But even if we get all countries in the world to forbid AI developments and use of AI in services and production, still people will work on it in the basements.

Do you think we're currently using it properly?

AI is used not properly, however this is inevitable. I mean, should we use AI to give us our dinner recipe for tonight? Nope. We can find recipes everywhere. But we do. I do think, playing with a technology, using it for all sort of reasons that isn't properly, is part of how technology becomes better.

Do you think the dangers outweigh the benefits? Would love to hear your thoughts.

This is irrelevant, since as I already mentioned, AI tech is inevitable. We have to make sure, AI will do what we like AI to do for all of us. I do believe AI shall be in our hands, not in the hands of a few super sized corporates. Setting the boundaries to what AI can do, a kill switch and whatnot, shall be determined by the public, if the public is able to set those rules together. We need to define a voting system which does not include a large money part, since money corrupts. We certainly need to figure out sooner than later, how we deal with job losses. Sure, for some time, new jobs will be created, but AI in combination with robotics will take over many of our jobs we know today. New jobs will be created, to have overseight of what AI does for us, but at some stage many of these jobs will also be done by AI. It is for a reason why the era we are in is named: the 4th industrial revolution. This is it! We will have to prepare - quickly - for a world where machines produce, create, invent. In which people don't have a job. Therefore, we shall transform our economic system, to move away from the earn and consume model to something else so we all can at least afford a basic life. In the mean time, we may us AI for whatever reason we like to use AI for, even if that is to give us a recipe for our dinner tonight. Play with it, learn from it, discover how awesome results AI is already given. It hallucinates, but the amount of hallucination is a fraction of a percentage; It depends on the topic is at hand.

That's an interesting point. At least with current experimentation and even using it for recipes, people actually get to see how it works. What it does, etc. It definitely shouldn't be controlled by a few corporations. Public open source models will also be important for people to have access to.

Therefore, we shall transform our economic system, to move away from the earn and consume model to something else so we all can at least afford a basic life.

This is the part I think most people don't get. It's going to literally change everything. AI + Robotics + automation + gps will certainly change the way economies work and the workforce itself.

The future and unstoppable

Yeah, the genie is out of the bottle and there's no going back at this point. I would rather have it in the hands of the general public than just in the hands of a few corporate types too.

All great and valid points. Thanks for the awesome comment.

Same here. I hear too often scenarios in which humans have their robots and AI agents doing the work for them, earning the money for the humans. How does this work? How does money keep value? Especially in the era when most of the work is handled by robots/AI, not by humans anymore. Am still trying to figure out how best to explain this to people. Especially those who respond with: "You mean communism?"
