In this video, I am talking about a doctor who says it is okay to be fat. I have my thoughts but I was surprised to find out that they align a lot with her's. Maybe you all might disagree, watch the video and find out.

I explained that being fat puts you at risk of heart disease especially if you are morbidly obese .

Many patients who come to the hospital are looking to lose weight as opposed to gaining weight.

I also explained that it is not my place to give patient advice that the patient does not want because this can be a cause of stress

If you are overweight I think it is my duty to inform you about it seeing that you are the relevant authority that is in charge of your life, so you can make an informed decisions.

It is okay to be fat probably. She would say that it is okay to consume all the monosaturated fat that you can too... This whole fat acceptance thing might not be as bad as we think it is. At least all the information she put out here I tend to agree with.

I think sneako would disagree with everything I have said in this video but, you know what, I don't care. He isn't even a healthcare worker so what would he know? I would like to ask him though, "sneako! is it okay to be fat?"

Is there any benefit to being fat/overweight really? I want to read more about that and get back to us with a video on that.

it is okay to be fat

2
00:00:01,900 --> 00:00:03,133
it's not okay

3
00:00:03,133 --> 00:00:04,000
it's necessary

4
00:00:04,133 --> 00:00:06,300
it's okay to be fat

5
00:00:07,866 --> 00:00:11,366
this video has been moving around my for you page

6
00:00:11,400 --> 00:00:12,300
like for a while

7
00:00:12,300 --> 00:00:14,266
and I've been trying my best to ignore it

8
00:00:14,266 --> 00:00:16,133
but I'm going to react to it

9
00:00:16,133 --> 00:00:16,900
hello everyone

10
00:00:16,900 --> 00:00:18,033
my name is Doctor Love it

11
00:00:18,033 --> 00:00:20,033
I'm from Informed Decision here

12
00:00:20,033 --> 00:00:21,833
I am medical doctor in Nigeria

13
00:00:21,833 --> 00:00:23,400
and from time to time

14
00:00:23,466 --> 00:00:26,166
patients come to see me who are overweight

15
00:00:26,266 --> 00:00:28,633
and they would like solutions to their problems

16
00:00:28,633 --> 00:00:30,433
and I have to give advice

17
00:00:30,433 --> 00:00:32,000
I have to talk to them after

18
00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:35,166
let them know what the right thing to do is

19
00:00:35,266 --> 00:00:37,666
so I'm going to be reacting to this video

20
00:00:37,666 --> 00:00:40,066
as it goes on in real time

21
00:00:40,066 --> 00:00:41,400
I'm going to be reacting to it

22
00:00:41,400 --> 00:00:43,500
and I'll let you know my opinions

23
00:00:43,500 --> 00:00:44,900
as the video plays on

24
00:00:44,900 --> 00:00:46,800
so I'm going to press play

25
00:00:46,866 --> 00:00:49,366
I'm listening to it on my headphones

26
00:00:49,400 --> 00:00:51,333
and I'll be listening to it and I'll be

27
00:00:51,600 --> 00:00:53,100
projecting it on the screen

28
00:00:53,100 --> 00:00:54,733
and you know

29
00:00:54,733 --> 00:00:56,233
regular react and stuff

30
00:00:57,500 --> 00:00:58,300
alright

31
00:00:58,433 --> 00:00:59,833
I totally agree

32
00:00:59,833 --> 00:01:01,400
it is okay to be fat

33
00:01:01,400 --> 00:01:02,600
we don't say that enough

34
00:01:02,600 --> 00:01:03,933
but it needs to be normalized

35
00:01:03,933 --> 00:01:05,233
if you are fat

36
00:01:05,933 --> 00:01:07,966
1 2

37
00:01:09,300 --> 00:01:10,300
immediate solving

38
00:01:10,300 --> 00:01:11,666
it is not an emergency

39
00:01:11,666 --> 00:01:13,300
you don't have to drop everything

40
00:01:13,300 --> 00:01:17,466
okay so what she says is that it is okay to be fat

41
00:01:19,066 --> 00:01:20,933
she's now saying that um

42
00:01:21,133 --> 00:01:22,366
it doesn't require

43
00:01:22,933 --> 00:01:24,000
emergency attention

44
00:01:24,000 --> 00:01:26,066
it doesn't require immediate attention

45
00:01:26,066 --> 00:01:27,100
which is true

46
00:01:27,266 --> 00:01:29,833
if you are someone who is obese

47
00:01:29,900 --> 00:01:31,833
or someone who is overweight

48
00:01:31,833 --> 00:01:33,166
somebody who is fat

49
00:01:33,200 --> 00:01:37,066
it doesn't necessarily mean that you need you know

50
00:01:37,066 --> 00:01:42,200
to receive normal saline for your post rate or you know

51
00:01:42,733 --> 00:01:45,500
be sent into the I C

52
00:01:45,500 --> 00:01:49,366
U to have a neckline set on you immediately

53
00:01:49,466 --> 00:01:51,933
and all of that but yeah

54
00:01:52,033 --> 00:01:53,600
that's that is a real thing

55
00:01:53,600 --> 00:01:55,300
that is a real thing

56
00:01:55,300 --> 00:01:57,333
but I usually I usually

57
00:01:57,866 --> 00:02:00,633
like to think of it this way that if

58
00:02:00,800 --> 00:02:01,800
if you are not

59
00:02:01,800 --> 00:02:04,600
if you are seeing a patient that is obese

60
00:02:04,866 --> 00:02:06,533
seeing a person who is fat

61
00:02:06,533 --> 00:02:10,633
and then you let them go

62
00:02:11,033 --> 00:02:14,000
it's equivalent to you seeing a problem

63
00:02:14,000 --> 00:02:17,000
that somebody did not come complaining of

64
00:02:17,000 --> 00:02:21,433
and you let the patient just go simply because um

65
00:02:22,133 --> 00:02:23,733
it's something you're not comfortable

66
00:02:23,733 --> 00:02:25,633
with talking about I guess

67
00:02:25,633 --> 00:02:26,133
or maybe you

68
00:02:26,133 --> 00:02:28,933
don't think the person will be ready to talk about it

69
00:02:28,933 --> 00:02:30,533
as as at that time

70
00:02:30,700 --> 00:02:33,933
I think there are ways to go about telling people that

71
00:02:33,933 --> 00:02:36,100
okay this is something that you found

72
00:02:36,100 --> 00:02:37,466
it's not what they complained of

73
00:02:37,466 --> 00:02:38,833
but this is something you found

74
00:02:38,833 --> 00:02:39,666
incidentally

75
00:02:39,666 --> 00:02:42,133
like if somebody comes with a high poor street

76
00:02:42,333 --> 00:02:45,900
like it's it's over 1:20 or maybe 1:50

77
00:02:45,900 --> 00:02:47,866
and the person came complaining of cough

78
00:02:47,866 --> 00:02:49,400
this is something that I've seen

79
00:02:49,400 --> 00:02:50,933
somebody coming complaining of cough

80
00:02:50,933 --> 00:02:53,333
but the person has a high pulse with losing weight

81
00:02:53,333 --> 00:02:55,533
there's a neck swelling on the person's neck

82
00:02:55,533 --> 00:02:56,333
but the person

83
00:02:56,500 --> 00:02:58,233
the person's main issue is the cough

84
00:02:58,233 --> 00:02:59,933
that started last week meanwhile

85
00:02:59,933 --> 00:03:02,200
the person is breathless has a neck mass

86
00:03:03,066 --> 00:03:03,833
high pole street

87
00:03:03,833 --> 00:03:05,266
you're thinking about something

88
00:03:05,266 --> 00:03:07,566
affecting the patient's thyroid and

89
00:03:07,666 --> 00:03:09,533
the person is complaining about cough

90
00:03:10,200 --> 00:03:14,133
so do you treat a virus which attracts infection

91
00:03:14,133 --> 00:03:14,700
at this point

92
00:03:14,700 --> 00:03:17,533
or do you start dealing with the fact that as in

93
00:03:17,533 --> 00:03:20,300
even a cough might even be related to

94
00:03:20,300 --> 00:03:21,366
the fact that

95
00:03:21,666 --> 00:03:23,666
the person has a neck mass

96
00:03:23,666 --> 00:03:25,400
pressing on the person's neck but anyway

97
00:03:25,400 --> 00:03:27,300
let's continue with what she's saying

98
00:03:27,300 --> 00:03:30,166
so it's actually not an emergency at the time

99
00:03:30,300 --> 00:03:33,000
and even while the person is having a high pause rate

100
00:03:33,000 --> 00:03:33,866
at the time

101
00:03:33,866 --> 00:03:35,900
it's technically

102
00:03:37,533 --> 00:03:40,133
is technically not an emergency

103
00:03:40,133 --> 00:03:42,900
the person is not going to die that day

104
00:03:42,900 --> 00:03:44,400
because of the hyperspace

105
00:03:44,400 --> 00:03:46,800
the person is not going to die that day because of

106
00:03:46,833 --> 00:03:51,633
the um the the vital science of abnormal

107
00:03:51,633 --> 00:03:53,366
what is what notion

108
00:03:54,100 --> 00:03:55,433
immediate solving

109
00:03:56,533 --> 00:03:58,433
you don't have to drop everything

110
00:03:58,666 --> 00:04:01,333
in the pursuit of being not fat

111
00:04:01,333 --> 00:04:03,100
Aaron said this other thing in a different video

112
00:04:03,100 --> 00:04:04,900
that I totally agree with as well

113
00:04:05,133 --> 00:04:06,100
oh

114
00:04:08,400 --> 00:04:09,500
oh okay okay

115
00:04:09,800 --> 00:04:14,500
so now she says it is okay not to be healthy

116
00:04:15,533 --> 00:04:19,500
and I've watched this video before I

117
00:04:19,500 --> 00:04:21,133
I know where she's going to work

118
00:04:21,133 --> 00:04:23,300
I just want to address that fact

119
00:04:23,300 --> 00:04:27,400
it's okay not to be healthy and I

120
00:04:29,800 --> 00:04:32,100
it's okay if you are not healthy

121
00:04:32,933 --> 00:04:36,766
my place as a doctor is to make sure that

122
00:04:37,100 --> 00:04:40,933
I help you in whatever way I find you

123
00:04:40,933 --> 00:04:42,366
if you are unhealthy

124
00:04:42,400 --> 00:04:43,800
if you are healthy

125
00:04:45,000 --> 00:04:48,533
I I it is also my place to to

126
00:04:49,233 --> 00:04:50,700
would I say inspire

127
00:04:51,300 --> 00:04:52,300
that's not that

128
00:04:52,333 --> 00:04:54,466
I'm not supposed to be out here trying to

129
00:04:54,466 --> 00:04:55,600
inspire you to be healthy

130
00:04:55,600 --> 00:04:57,133
but I'm supposed to tell you

131
00:04:57,133 --> 00:05:00,066
educate you to the best of my ability and I

132
00:05:00,066 --> 00:05:02,300
I'm only recently finding out that

133
00:05:03,400 --> 00:05:04,900
advice and education

134
00:05:05,833 --> 00:05:10,233
is only supposed to be given when the patient request

135
00:05:10,233 --> 00:05:11,300
whether the patient

136
00:05:11,633 --> 00:05:13,700
says that this is something they want

137
00:05:13,700 --> 00:05:15,300
some people don't want to receive advice

138
00:05:15,300 --> 00:05:16,933
at some point like me

139
00:05:16,933 --> 00:05:20,100
they don't want to hear you yap about how they should

140
00:05:20,133 --> 00:05:22,933
exercise 150 minutes every week

141
00:05:22,933 --> 00:05:25,700
or how they should drink three litres of water

142
00:05:25,700 --> 00:05:27,233
so people don't want to hear a lot of that

143
00:05:27,233 --> 00:05:29,133
so you want to

144
00:05:29,233 --> 00:05:31,300
really be sure that this patient wants advice

145
00:05:31,300 --> 00:05:34,333
so I think it's okay not to be healthy

146
00:05:34,333 --> 00:05:36,000
I understand where she's coming from

147
00:05:36,000 --> 00:05:37,933
I get that I I

148
00:05:37,933 --> 00:05:40,100
I understand that um

149
00:05:40,466 --> 00:05:42,333
yeah it's okay not

150
00:05:42,333 --> 00:05:43,300
to be healthy

151
00:05:43,933 --> 00:05:45,066
to be unhealthy

152
00:05:45,066 --> 00:05:47,900
it's okay to be unhealthy it's it's

153
00:05:48,066 --> 00:05:49,000
it's a dicey one

154
00:05:49,000 --> 00:05:50,200
I said Doctor I I

155
00:05:50,200 --> 00:05:52,900
I don't want my patient to be unhealthy

156
00:05:53,000 --> 00:05:55,733
unless maybe I want some more patients to be coming

157
00:05:55,733 --> 00:05:57,433
and my workload to be increasing

158
00:05:57,900 --> 00:06:00,400
in Nigeria we have a high walk load

159
00:06:00,400 --> 00:06:02,600
like the number of patients are coming everyday

160
00:06:02,600 --> 00:06:05,433
the doctor the doctor to patient to issue is crazy

161
00:06:05,433 --> 00:06:07,633
and if you're walking in a very busy hospital

162
00:06:07,700 --> 00:06:08,533
you feel it

163
00:06:08,533 --> 00:06:10,000
I don't want it's

164
00:06:10,066 --> 00:06:11,533
it's not okay for me

165
00:06:11,533 --> 00:06:12,633
it's not okay for me I

166
00:06:12,633 --> 00:06:14,133
I don't want you to be unhealthy

167
00:06:14,133 --> 00:06:15,300
I want you to be well

168
00:06:15,300 --> 00:06:18,233
I want you to be a functional member of society

169
00:06:18,233 --> 00:06:22,033
I want you away from the hospital as much as possible

170
00:06:22,066 --> 00:06:24,300
and I want to deal with the more serious cases

171
00:06:24,300 --> 00:06:26,266
the more serious people that like

172
00:06:26,266 --> 00:06:28,366
cases that need my attention

173
00:06:28,433 --> 00:06:30,300
I don't want um

174
00:06:30,733 --> 00:06:33,733
more and more minor cases that could be avoided by

175
00:06:33,933 --> 00:06:36,366
lifestyle modifications and behavioral changes

176
00:06:36,700 --> 00:06:39,300
so is it okay to be unhealthy

177
00:06:39,300 --> 00:06:41,266
it's okay for the patient to be unhealthy

178
00:06:41,266 --> 00:06:44,800
it's okay for the patient to not seek health education

179
00:06:45,233 --> 00:06:47,166
all that is fine but

180
00:06:48,666 --> 00:06:49,233
as a doctor

181
00:06:49,233 --> 00:06:50,533
it's not something I would see

182
00:06:50,533 --> 00:06:51,900
I I don't know

183
00:06:51,900 --> 00:06:52,733
I it doesn't

184
00:06:52,733 --> 00:06:54,300
it just doesn't sit well with me

185
00:06:54,300 --> 00:06:56,900
but let's listen to what other things she has to say I

186
00:06:56,900 --> 00:06:59,900
I think she later made um

187
00:06:59,900 --> 00:07:01,500
more sense about what she was

188
00:07:01,500 --> 00:07:05,133
trying to say in this video so let's let's hear it

189
00:07:05,900 --> 00:07:11,133
I love you guys

190
00:07:11,333 --> 00:07:12,466
and there's a name for that

191
00:07:12,466 --> 00:07:13,766
and that's called healthism

192
00:07:13,766 --> 00:07:14,533
now don't get me wrong

193
00:07:14,533 --> 00:07:15,566
in my line of work

194
00:07:15,566 --> 00:07:19,033
there's a lot of people that I see that want to gain

195
00:07:19,033 --> 00:07:20,233
weight lose weight

196
00:07:20,900 --> 00:07:20,966
yeah yeah like I'm

197
00:07:22,533 --> 00:07:23,966
I'm actually more

198
00:07:24,066 --> 00:07:26,833
likely to meet someone who wants to lose weight

199
00:07:26,833 --> 00:07:28,033
for whatever reason

200
00:07:28,033 --> 00:07:30,066
sometimes people come into the consulting

201
00:07:30,066 --> 00:07:32,566
room and they do not know that

202
00:07:32,866 --> 00:07:36,233
their problem that they are currently dealing with

203
00:07:36,233 --> 00:07:38,900
is a microcosm

204
00:07:39,100 --> 00:07:42,433
microcosm new word I learnt of their

205
00:07:42,466 --> 00:07:45,800
behaviour that they've had for a long period of time

206
00:07:47,600 --> 00:07:49,000
it's like I said

207
00:07:49,000 --> 00:07:50,433
it's only recently that I'm

208
00:07:50,433 --> 00:07:52,200
starting to find out that it is

209
00:07:52,500 --> 00:07:55,900
I it's not my place to to jump in

210
00:07:56,000 --> 00:07:59,400
and give you that advice if it's not something you want

211
00:07:59,666 --> 00:08:02,266
but most people in Nigeria actually want the advice

212
00:08:02,266 --> 00:08:04,233
so at the same time

213
00:08:05,000 --> 00:08:08,200
it's it's not being difficult

214
00:08:08,666 --> 00:08:09,800
when I ask people

215
00:08:09,800 --> 00:08:13,133
do this is this advice that you would want right now

216
00:08:13,133 --> 00:08:14,766
do you want my advice

217
00:08:15,066 --> 00:08:16,900
and many people are very receptive

218
00:08:16,900 --> 00:08:18,500
many people come to the hospital

219
00:08:18,500 --> 00:08:20,833
wanting to know what the doctor thinks

220
00:08:20,866 --> 00:08:23,333
it's almost like um um

221
00:08:24,000 --> 00:08:26,900
I'm getting paid to see my siblings

222
00:08:26,933 --> 00:08:28,833
like that's where I see it

223
00:08:28,833 --> 00:08:32,200
cause sometimes my siblings will call me and they have

224
00:08:32,200 --> 00:08:33,066
medical issues

225
00:08:33,066 --> 00:08:35,533
and I just give them advice

226
00:08:35,533 --> 00:08:36,533
I just tell them okay

227
00:08:36,533 --> 00:08:37,266
this is what you do

228
00:08:37,266 --> 00:08:38,300
this is what you do

229
00:08:38,300 --> 00:08:41,400
and I just feel like some people don't have that

230
00:08:41,400 --> 00:08:44,233
family member who is into medicine or is practicing

231
00:08:45,000 --> 00:08:48,966
and yes people would argue that I'm not supposed to be

232
00:08:49,266 --> 00:08:52,800
the person attending to my family members the most

233
00:08:52,800 --> 00:08:54,700
but it just

234
00:08:54,700 --> 00:08:55,800
it just is like

235
00:08:55,800 --> 00:08:58,600
if you have access to a medical professional

236
00:08:58,600 --> 00:09:01,533
most times people want to use that um

237
00:09:01,533 --> 00:09:05,733
I'll just advise that people don't abuse it so um

238
00:09:06,300 --> 00:09:08,500
healthism yeah yeah

239
00:09:08,500 --> 00:09:10,600
people meet me for weight

240
00:09:10,633 --> 00:09:11,433
weight gain

241
00:09:11,533 --> 00:09:12,133
weight loss

242
00:09:12,133 --> 00:09:15,666
I met one patient that was on the weight and um

243
00:09:15,666 --> 00:09:20,000
I tried giving some advice on how to you know

244
00:09:20,533 --> 00:09:23,800
build his weight up to a healthy level

245
00:09:24,033 --> 00:09:26,833
and all of that so yeah

246
00:09:26,866 --> 00:09:29,000
then this whole talk about healthism

247
00:09:29,700 --> 00:09:31,400
I don't really understand it

248
00:09:31,400 --> 00:09:32,233
I don't know why

249
00:09:32,233 --> 00:09:36,433
why do plenty things have so many isms these days

250
00:09:36,466 --> 00:09:37,600
like there's so

251
00:09:37,600 --> 00:09:39,266
there's so many isms

252
00:09:39,266 --> 00:09:42,633
it's it's crazy so um

253
00:09:44,700 --> 00:09:47,600
helltism let's see what she said about that

254
00:09:47,600 --> 00:09:48,233
helltism again

255
00:09:49,033 --> 00:09:53,133
and that's what I'm doing

256
00:09:54,433 --> 00:09:55,566
and there's a name for that

257
00:09:55,566 --> 00:09:56,900
and that's called healthism

258
00:09:57,300 --> 00:09:58,966
what are you doing

259
00:10:00,700 --> 00:10:02,533
that want to gain weight

260
00:10:02,533 --> 00:10:03,333
lose weight

I think the problem in the US is that we are saying it's okay to be obese long-term now.

Cheers for the commentary.

If that's the general consensus then I think that's a big problem. I guess no one is explicitly saying it that way but making the topic as a taboo doesn't help society.

A problem in the United States is that people were taught that dietary fat was the cause of obeseity.

So doctors were telling people to cut whole fats from the diet. We were told not to eat eggs, whole milk, chicken skin, the fatty part of beef, etc..

We were told to eat high carb diets with a lot of bread, skim milk, etc.. People developed diets with a large amoung of sugar and carbs.

The dietary advice was wrong.

So, she is coming off several decades of doctors giving really bad dietary advice that was causing problems and causing neurosis.

Once doctors have a better understanding of nutrition, then things will normalize.

If that's what she means then I totally agree that it make the information hard to access. I remember finding this out for myself as a doctor and realizing that patients may still be locked in the dark.

I don't think health education is going as far as it should. People need to know the truth about these topics. The health educators should see no shame in taking steps back when new information presents itself.

Sadly, doctors are also burdened with political and business pressures that prevent a healthy discussion of diet.

The political pressure placed on doctors during COVID19 was absurd. Doctors were scared to talk about basic steps to improve the immune system.

Even today, doctors are reluctant to mention that UVB exposure produces Vitamin D.

As for dietary issues, there is pressure from businesses which have invested heavily in to the production of low fat products.

These pressures makes it difficult to find the best information.

The only thing I know is that it is good to end a message with a slice of PIZZA
