I think there would be a lot of wusses who wouldn't follow through and then they would be the ones left to run the planet. Not my idea of better! :)

If the fart explosion was big enough those assoles would be caught in the blast, like collateral damage. Also, I reckon the blast would take out the power, so only those with the right skills would survive, and those skilled people aren't typically those with no gumption, they're usually people like me.
