These are from my list of 58, but I have to publish them little by little! I'll introduce you to two quite different from each other, located in different strategic locations and even with very unique histories! Both castles are also in the Alentejo region of Portugal, in the south-central part of the country—an extreme climate that's unbearably hot in the summer and unbearably cold in the winter! Ambos castillos también pertenecen a la zona alentejana de Portugal, en el "centro-sur", un ambiente extremo que en verano es demasiado caliente e invierno demasiado frío. ¡Tu única misión hoy es decidir cuál es más bonito!🏰🗺️

Incredible, isn't it? The first one is at 283 meters high, and the second is at over 900 meters. That already tells us that both had very specific military strategies. Of the 58 castles, I'll tell you later which one has been my favorite so far! You'll be surprised by my answer! From Lisbon, it's a trip of over 200 km. I invested a lot of time, money, and energy in this feat! I spent a total of 6 hours just locating both of them, and I say this humbly so you can have a reference point for everything I've invested so far to find these 58.🏰
¿Increíble, no? El primero a 283 metros de altura, ¿el segundo a más de 900 metros? Eso ya nos dice que ambos tenían estrategias militares muy específicas. De los 58 castillos, ¡más adelante te diré cuál ha sido mi favorito hasta ahora! ¡Te sorprenderá mi respuesta! Desde Lisboa es un viaje de más de 200 km. Para esta hazaña invertí mucho tiempo, dinero y energía. Gasté 6 h en total solo en localizar ambos, y lo digo humildemente para que tengas una referencia de todo lo que he invertido hasta ahora para conseguir esos 58.💂🏻♀️

Currently, it is not possible to enter because part of the wall collapsed, and I think it has been like that for some time! Or at least that is what I saw on Google Maps. This castle is located in Estremoz, which in turn belongs to Évora. Looking at it very superficially, it is much smaller and more modest than the one in Marvão. The views of the Alentejo plains are unique; however, those from Marvão are better due to the altitude.📍🏰
Actualmente no se puede entrar porque se derrumbó una parte de la muralla, ¡y creo que lleva así algún tiempo! O al menos eso vi en Google Maps. Este castillo se ubica en Estremoz, que a su vez pertenece a Évora. Viéndolo muy superficialmente, es mucho más pequeño y humilde que el de Marvão. Las vistas de las planicies del Alentejo son únicas; sin embargo, las de Marvão son mejores por la altura😍🚙
I laughed when I read: "it's the rockiest" of all the castles in Portugal, and I wondered why. It turns out it's because it has the best integration into the local granite rock. I actually like the design; it's different from the rest. Although it seems more fragile, it's somewhat close to the border with Spain. Its origin dates back to the 9th century, which means before the Christian reconquest, making it clear that it has a Roman-Arab past.📸🏰
Me dio risa leer: "es el más roquero" de todos los castillos de Portugal, y me pregunté ¿por qué? Jeje. Resulta que es porque tiene la mejor integración en la roca de granito local. En realidad me gusta el diseño, es diferente al resto; aunque parece más frágil, está algo cerca de la frontera con España. Su origen se remonta al siglo IX, esto quiere decir antes de las reconquistas cristianas, lo que a su vez nos deja claro que tiene un pasado romano-árabe.🏞️🌏
During the reign of King Afonso II, the castle was conquered from the Arabs in 1217 and then given to the Order of Avis to populate the city. Its Gothic reconstruction began in the 13th century. As a curious fact, within these walls, the illegitimate son of João I, who would become the first Duke of Braganza, was born. In the war of 1662, the keep was destroyed. Its walls are a mixture of schist and granite.📸🚩
En el reinado de D. Afonso II el castillo fue conquistado, a los Arabes en el 1217 luego se entrega a la orden de avis para poblar la ciudad, su recontruccion gotica se comienza en el siglo XIII como dato curioso entre estas murallas nacio el hijo bastardo de Joao I quien seria el primer duque de Bragança, en la guerra de 1662 la torre del homenaje se destruyo, sus murallas son una mezcla de piedra de xisto y granito📍💂🏻♀️

If someone asks me which of the 58 castles I visited is my favorite, I would say without hesitating: Marvão. Wow, it's crazy! I've never been to a castle so big, so complex, and so well preserved. Do you know what they call it? The Eagle's Nest, because you're so high up that the eagles fly below you and you only see their backs🚩📍
Si alguien me pregunta cuál de los 58 castillos que visité es mi favorito, diría sin pensarlo: Marvão. ¡Ufff, es una locura! Nunca estuve en un castillo tan grande, tan complejo, tan bien preservado. ¿Sabes cómo le llaman? El Nido de las Águilas, porque estás tan alto que las águilas vuelan debajo de ti y solo les ves las "espaldas".🌏🏰
This castle is located in the heart of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park. It's an architectural masterpiece and is considered by many to be the most beautiful, and now I can see why I love it! There are records of Roman-Arab occupation in the Serra; however, the major reconstruction took place in the 13th and 14th centuries, obviously to defend the border between Portugal and Spain. You can walk along the walls and explore the picturesque village inside, painted white. Of course, this area gets very hot in the summer, which is why the white paint, as I explained on my YouTube channel, is used to repel the heat.📍🚩
Este castillo se encuentra en el centro de la sierra del parque natural de la Sierra de São Mamede, es una obra de arte arquitectónico y lo catalogan como el más bonito, ¡y ya veo por qué me gusta! Existen registros de ocupación romano-árabe en la sierra; sin embargo, la reconstrucción importante fue entre los siglos XIII y XIV, obvio para defender el límite fronterizo de Portugal y España. Es posible recorrer las murallas y, por dentro, su pueblo pintoresco con pintura blanca. Claro, esta zona es caliente en verano, por ello el blanco —lo explicaba en mi canal de YouTube— se usa para repeler el calor.💂🏻♀️📸
Finally, and what also makes it interesting, is that from the keep, which is very well preserved, you can see a large expanse of Spanish territory. In addition, the castle has the largest water cistern in Portugal, one of the largest in Europe, and you can still see water inside.😍📍
Por último, y lo que también lo hace interesante, es que desde la torre del homenaje, que se conserva muy bien, se ve una gran extensión del territorio español. Además, el castillo tiene la cisterna de agua más grande de Portugal, una de las mayores de Europa, y aún se ve agua dentro.🏰🌏
