Yes! Officially, Castle 67 is the strangest I've visited so far. However, it's not because of its architecture, but because of what it is today... a structure that looks like it stores water! That makes me wonder: is this an "assault" on the region's culture? According to records, the castle was demolished to build that tower. I've never seen anything like this until now. What do you think about that? Instead of restoring it, they left it as a "water tank.🚩📍
si! oficialmente el castillo 67 es el mas extrano que visite hasta ahora, pero no es por su arquitectura es por lo que hoy en dia es... Una estructura que parece que almacena agua??? alli yo me pregunto... Es esto un "asesinato" a la cultura de la region?, segun registros el Castillo se derrumbo para construir esa torre. Since there is no castle as such, you can still appreciate the walls, which are original. They were demolished in 1960 to build the water tank; we suppose the resource was more important than the fortress, so it's best not to judge! It's located at the top of Ourique hill, in the "Baixo Alentejo" region at more than 220 meters high, so the viewpoint is amazing. It has its origins in the Muslim era, later passed into the hands of the Christians, and was used to protect the Alentejo countryside.🚩🚙
Al no existir un castillo como tal, se pueden apreciar las murallas, que sí son originales. Se derrumbó en 1960 para construir el tanque de agua; suponemos que el recurso era más importante que la fortaleza, ¡por ello mejor no juzgar! Está en el tope de la colina de Ourique, en el "Baixo Alentejo", a más de 220 metros de altura, por tanto el mirador es asombroso. Tiene sus inicios en la época musulmana, luego pasó a manos de los cristianos y se empleó para proteger los campos alentejanos.💂🏻♀️🌍

I left a castle in Ourique and now I'm in a village called Messejana, only to find the castle in its worst condition yet. It would be our 68th castle, yes... Only that stone tower remains. What a shame, isn't it? I took the opportunity to use my review on Google Maps to call the town council's attention to the need to invest in and restore the castle.

Like Ourique, Messejana has Arab origins. It sits atop the highest point of the hill and is believed to have been rebuilt and modified during the Reconquista, around 1225. I've visited some castles in poor condition, but I don't think any of them surpass this one! Only a portion of the keep remains. It also served as a lookout and defensive point in the heart of the Alentejo!🏰📸

Well, this is the most decent castle we saw today, and it's number 69! Alcoutim is located in the southeast of the Algarve region, bordering Spain. Its arch-rival was the so-called Castle of San Marcos in Spain, which wasn't even a castle but a fortress, so that's a point for us! It also has Arab origins; the Treaty of Alcoutim was signed here in 1371 to end the war between Spain and Portugal (the Fernandine War). There's an entrance fee, and it's not open all day! That's why I suggest checking Google Maps!🏰🌍

Su archirrival era el "mal llamado" castillo de San Marcos en España, que ni siquiera fue un castillo, sino una fortaleza, ¡por eso punto para nosotros! También tiene orígenes árabes; aquí se firmó el Tratado de Alcoutim en 1371 para finalizar la guerra entre España y Portugal (la guerra fernandina). 🚩 I give Messejana Castle 1/5 stars; let's hope it's restored someday. Ourique Castle gets 2/5 stars for destroying heritage and building a water tank, and Alcoutim Castle gets 3/5 stars; there are some negative points that need improvement, such as the price (3.5 euros) and the fact that it's cash only
🚩 They all had military purposes to protect the border and they all had Arab influence
🚩 The first two are free and always open to the public
