It all started at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon. I know that as a traveler, anything can happen with airlines. In my case, I bought a round-trip ticket with SATA Azores, and guess what? We received a message that our flight was delayed by 5 hours—very, very bad... Our travel plan included visiting the city center as our first stop, since it was a sunny day, and this delay meant we didn't arrive on the island until 7 p.m., ruining our plans and forcing us to improvise...🙇🏻♀️❌

✅My first big piece of advice is to create a routine or travel journal with a plan B and C, in case your first option has a mishap.

If you look at the journey, it's in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, which excited me because, technically, we could say we're visiting one of the most isolated places on the planet! With a duration of 2.5 hours from the center of Lisbon, it's an extremely comfortable and quick trip. Despite the delay, the rest of the on-board procedures were pleasant.📸🏞️

I found the Lajes Airport quite comfortable and well-suited to its small size. Remember, this island is no more than 17 km wide and 30 km long, and you might say: "Wow! That's what I walk every day, meaning I can travel the island from end to end in a day." The answer is yes...📸

Despite the island's isolation, there are several options for renting a vehicle. Is it necessary? YES... it's almost impossible to visit tourist spots without a car. There is no public transportation to those areas; in fact, I never saw a bus in the center of the island during my many hours of walking. I opted to use Rent a Car Angra. I give it 3/5 stars. I had trouble installing the baby seat in the car, and the man saw me struggling but didn't come over to help! Remember, I was arriving with a five-hour delay and a baby—we need to be more human!🙇🏻♀️📍
First stop Serra do cume🧭🏞️ / Primera parada Serra do cume🚩📍

The "Serra do Cume" is the name given to the mountain range located on the east side, approximately 20 minutes by car from the airport! Don't ask me if it's worth visiting... Look at that sunset, wow! One of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I loved my stop here before heading to the airport. The shots are with my drone; you must request permission from ANAC, as this island has military use, so be careful.🌏

As you can see, there are prices to suit all budgets. I came in spring, which isn't exactly peak season, so the prices are more affordable. You can find places from €50 to €180 per day. We rented this T2... yes, a house! This hotel essentially operates like a hacienda and rents out houses, so you could share the cost with other family members. It's fully equipped, from a microwave to an iron! I loved it!!! 4/5 stars, because the hot water took more than 15 minutes to get a shower, haha.🙇🏻♀️🏨
¡Me encantó!

Mountain range "do Brasil"🧭🏞️ / Monte "do Brasil"🚩📍

We're on the Monte do Brasil Peninsula, one of the most beautiful reserves in Angra do Heroísmo. It covers 1.4 square kilometers, and believe it or not, I'm walking on a real extinct volcanic cone that apparently rose from the sea. I suppose the same principle applies to the entire island. It's located at the southern tip. To get here, you have two options: via the trail (PRC04TER) or by car from the center, which takes 10 minutes. I think the fort and the "das Cruzinhas" viewpoint are the most interesting parts.🙇🏻♀️🏔️🌏

Here at the top of the mountain range there is a park with animals to enjoy with the family, and its beautiful viewpoint overlooking the city center.🌏

Local dish🧭🍖 / Plato local🍷📍

You can't leave the island without trying the alcatra de carne; it's the most traditional dish you'll find, and its organic butter is one of the most popular in Portugal for being quite healthy. The dish is cooked for many hours, hence its smoky black color—absolutely delicious. We ordered this dish for two people with drinks and spent an average of 70 euros. 5/5 stars, everything was perfect!🌏🗺️

One post isn't enough, don't miss my next island adventure... We'll see the wild side📍🏔️✈️

Hello, dear friend @biologistbrito.
I'm so sorry to hear about the bad experience you had on your visit to the island. The flight delay and the driver's lack of empathy and poor service were disappointing.
However, I think all the bad things were forgotten in the face of the island's beauty. The aerial photos you took are gorgeous.
Thank you so much for sharing your travel experience.
Have a wonderful afternoon.

Despite the 5-hour delay, the trip was pleasant, and the pictures you shared prove it. Unfortunately, we don't always receive the help we need, and things like that man who refused to help you with the child in the car happen.
I agree that you should always have alternatives for your plans because life is like a chessboard, and you must have options when faced with difficulties.

What a beautiful and useful travel diary! I loved how you shared not only the amazing views of the Azores, but also practical tips like having a plan B and renting a car. Serra do Cume and Monte do Brasil look truly magical. Thanks for taking us with you on this journey!
Feliz domingo, @biologistbrito
