Cyber Security - Be Alert

They say Technology is rapidly taking over the world and people are now aware of how to secure their accounts properly to avoid cybersecurity failure. It is shocking that as people become wiser those that are involved in these cyber crimes are also becoming wiser. They are also finding new and better ways to hack into one’s account. They come up with new ways and new means every day. As Technology becomes better and more secure, they become wiser and still devise new means.

I have heard and seen people who were victims of Cyber security failure. In most stories I get to hear that the victim couldn’t even go through the heartbreak of losing their savings and some of them end up dying. Things are happening in this society and people are still falling victim to various cyber crimes. They will say do not send any “OTP” you get to anyone as they could get access to your accounts but it’s funny how there are now new means they could still hack your account.

In 2020, during the Corona outbreak in Nigeria, A friend of mine was a Victim of Cyber Security Failure. He lost his savings which was over a million in just one day. He said he didn’t even send an OTP code to anyone and was just shocked how he got debit messages and before he could even block his account, they have moved every money in the account.

When he went to the bank to make a report, he was told that the place where he went to withdraw money were the ones that had access to his account. Honestly, to date, I don’t know how they were able to do it. He went back to where he withdrew and found out they moved already within short notice. He also tried tracking the account where the money was moved to but then the Bank said they are not meant to give out personal information. No matter how he pushed the case, he wasn’t able to get back his money.

This made him go into debt. It took him years to bounce back because it wasn’t a good experience. I haven’t experienced this thing before and I hope I don’t. I try to secure my accounts, not just my bank accounts but also my social media accounts because people also hack into those and either they turn your account into a Ponzi site and try to scam your friends or they use your profile to beg.

Like I said these people look for new means to make one a victim of cyber crimes. Most times I even tell people not to connect their cards to certain websites especially if you have little or no idea about the site. Most people have fallen victim to this particular type of scam, you put in your card details just because you want to purchase something online, and boom!! You get hacked and you lose money from your account.

No matter what, I think people who do this should develop some feelings.

You are right, people look for a new means to make a person a victim of cybercrime. And as for your friend am sure that at the place where he withdrew his money, those people were frauds for them not to be there when he went back. Hope he's good now?
