Study Says CBD Doesn't Impair Your Driving

According to a recent Dutch study, Driving Under the Influence of CBD or THC-Is There a Difference?, researchers from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands sought to investigate the impacts that both CBD and THC might have on someone who is behind the wheel.

CBD is much different than THC because it does not provide the same high experience that you get with THC, for this reason many more people are open to taking CBD when they might not be open to THC because of its effects. Anyone who is familiar with cannabis will know very well that CBD cannot be fairly compared to THC, that there is still a lot of CBD ignorance out there and misconceptions about CBD and cannabis altogether.

There is little research that has been conducted on CBD and the effect that it might have on driving, there would have been much more if it would have been a free market for scientists to investigate this plant but that wasn't possible. The lack of research is a result of the government actions to criminalize cannabis to a large extent and that has effectively stunted further understanding and research of cannabis, preventing us from getting to know more.

CBD And Driving

Those involved in the recent study had been tested on their driving after vaping CBD, THC + CBD, or just vaping a placebo. How were they able to give participants cannabis and then let them drive on the roads? They arranged it with lawmakers in the region so that they could conduct a safe driving test on the road.

Those who took part in the CBD driving study were observed for things like lane weaving, swerving, overcorrecting, and speed.

They tested participants with:

  • vaping 13.75 mg of THC
  • vaping 13.75 mg of THC and 13.75 mg of CBD together
  • vaping 13.75 mg of CBD
  • or vaping the placebo

After vaping the THC, CBD, both, or nothing, they waited at least 40 minutes before they started driving.

The researchers discovered that the CBD-dominant cannabis vape did not impair driving for the participants.

They say that a higher dose of CBD might prove different and have a more significant impact on driving ability, but there is also the issue of tolerance as well.

Someone who has been using cannabis for years however, just CBD for example, might be able to stand a higher tolerance without it impacting their driving. Current roadside test methods for cannabis and CBD are both confusing and ineffective and it has proven to be difficult for enforcers to determine which is which. Researchers will be looking to further investigate this in the future and that will require using higher doses of CBD to see what impact that might have on the driving results overall.

The government will find anyway to milk this or dismiss these findings just for profit... If they see you vaping they will justify pulling you over to check cartridges someday. Yet, that's just me being pessimistic.
