La imagen ilustra una galaxia infrarroja fusionándose con tres más pequeñas. En el año 2015 se anunció como la más luminosa del Universo.

El brillo es de 350 billones de soles, generado por un cuásar gigantesco con la masa de 10.000 millones de veces la masa del Sol, liberando hasta 10.000 veces la energía de la Vía Láctea.

Además, la fusión y canibalismo de galaxias cercanas más pequeñas posiblemente contribuya en este proceso. La luz visible y ultravioleta emitida por el disco de acreción alrededor del agujero negro es absorbida por el polvo de la galaxia y remitida en el infrarrojo.

Catalogada como "W2246-0526", la luz que nos está llegando ahora ha estado viajando unos 12.500 millones de años desde los confines del Universo. La galaxia fue descubierta utilizando el telescopio "Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer" (Wise) de la NASA.

The brightness is 350 billion suns, generated by a gigantic quasar with the mass of 10,000 million times the mass of the Sun, releasing up to 10,000 times the energy of the Milky Way.

In addition, the fusion and cannibalism of smaller nearby galaxies may contribute to this process. The visible and ultraviolet light emitted by the accretion disk around the black hole is absorbed by the dust of the galaxy and sent in the infrared.

Listed as "W2246-0526", the light that is coming to us now has been traveling some 12.5 billion years since the confines of the Universe. The galaxy was discovered using NASA's "Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer" (Wise) telescope.
