A coin for every occasion: 27th June 1929 - first colour television broadcast.

Throughout the month of June, ill be looking back at historical moments from the past. From conflicts to coronations, sporting moments to royal memories, and famous firsts and lasts, with my love of all things shiny and precious, ill be trying to tie these events in with coins that have been created to commemorate these moments.

On this day in 1929, the first colour TV demo was performed by Bell Laboratories in NYC.

It’s hard to imagine life without television but back in the early 1920s, it was a complete unknown.

That was until John Logie Baird successfully produced televised objects in outline in 1924, transmitted recognisable human faces in 1925, and demonstrated the televising of moving objects in 1926. And in 1928, the first transatlantic transmission was aired. So it didnt take too many more years for television to advance enough to transmit colour.

Funny that I don't have Cable Television anymore, just Internet.
@punkysdad Do you still have those old Dr. Who TV shows in Black and White?

Cool coin, @welshstacker. Interesting, sounds like the television will be celebrating its one-hundredth birthday soon.
