"Do we need Xenobots, and do they excite or terrifiy you?

I have thought about this question for a while now, well since it was put forward by @eco-alex and when I read it first my initial reaction was to go hell no, this is not a good thing. But I really wanted to give myself some time to think about it. I know that it is inevitable, that technology is always going to advance, because that is the nature of it.

I have always been weary of technology, the fact that it takes us further and further away from what is natural, that it pulls our attention away from ourselves and the earth.

But then I get involved in this platform and suddenly I had turned into one of those people who spends x amount of time staring at a screen each day. I had become that person that months earlier, I just couldn't identify with. So things change, we change and that is as it should be, we are meant to evolve.

So I wanted to focus a little on the possible advantages of these Xenobots, especially after @eco-alex stated how the sky is the limit with what they could do, to help us and the environment. In his own words:

Xenobots could potentially be used to clean radioactive wastes, collect microplastics in the oceans, carry medicine into human bodies or travel to human arteries to remove plaque. They could be used to target drug delivery in the body to specific locations, thereby removing toxicity issues that happen when the liver has to remove excess drugs from the blood.

That is of course very impressive and I can totally see why some people would get very excited about them. After watching the video that Alex provided also, you can see how much time, energy and science went into creating them. It is by no means a simple thing, it really is a very impressive achievement.

I can see in this day and age, how beneficial they could be, because lets face it, there are so many people who are really suffering with their health and finding ways to help them to improve would be invaluable.

But the reality of it is, that these discoveries are just about treating the symptoms of ill health, just as they would be treating the symptoms of our behaviours. The many ways in which we have become so destructive towards ourselves and the planet. What we really need to focus on is changing them. It is all well and good to have the latest technological advancements, but not when it allows us to continue to as we are going.

A lot of modern medicine is all about treating the signs of dis ease, finding a way to stop the messages that our body is sending to us, messages that are there to alert us to the fact that something is wrong. Instead of listening, we just shut them off, taking pain killers, taking medicine to aid our digestion and medicine to improve our moods.

If we were to allow these Xenobots to de-clog our arteries, then we don't need to look at the reasons as to why they are clogged in the first place. We can continue to dis respect our bodies, just as we have been disrespecting the planet. This is not true evolution in my eyes.

As a vegan, I can not ignore the fact that frogs are being used in order to create these Xenobots, how can we really be healing ourselves, if we are taking the life of others in order to do so. This alone, is enough to turn me off them.

It does scare me to be honest, because what is next after this. This is surely just the beginning, introducing something that is living, a gentle introduction for what is to follow. It is an age old tactic, in where you slowly introduce ideas, so that when the time comes to imply something on a much larger scale, it will not come as such a shock.

Personally I do not like the idea of anything foreign being put into my body. I believe that are bodies hold their own medicine within, hold their own healing within and would prefer to aid them only with plants and natural therapies.

The best medicine is preventative at the end of the day, so please invest that money into preventative care, into education. Because I can only imagine how much money has been pumped into the development of Xenobots.

The same can be said for the environment. We need to educate ourselves, to change our life styles so that we become more of service to the earth. Not put money into technology that allows us to be so destructive. This is not progress, not in my eyes anyhow.

I really did try and look at them with an open mind, but as always I should have just gone with my initial reaction, to trust my instinct, because that is what matters the most.

I love that you wrapped your head around this topic and responded. Frankly, I must confess, it overwhelmed me. I especially loved this:
