Learn Cognitive Behavioral Psychology to heal yourself.

Always this desire for self-sufficiency in my healing journeys (the wound, as well as its healing, are constant in the life of any human being). From my past use of entheogens in the "lone wolf" model, away from sacred rituals offered by institutions, to my eternal journey into dietary health that consists of an endless loop of research and testing on what is and is not healthy for my body. The truth is, when we pursue this kind of self-reliant journey, we run into countless mistakes and stumbling blocks along the way. It's natural, since we're breaking new ground. I can't say it always works, but I've had countless good examples of success (like when I taught myself and devoted myself heavily to yoga, and kept practicing for an hour a day for over 5 years), and these positive reinforcements drive me on this journey. of self-knowledge.

A topic that has always been complicated for me and at the same time extremely intriguing is psychology, a science that I even studied officially for a while, but as a good person with ADD, I always had difficulties in school (and college) and it didn't work by conventional means of education. I promised myself that I would go on studying psychology on my own for the educational degree and indifferent to the fact that it would leave me without a degree. Of course, on the mental planes things turn out one way, and in real life another. In the end, psychology just remained in a range of interests that I would occasionally delve deeper or deeper and little by little the desire to learn about the space for other basic everyday needs. But the most cruel and real factor that could play a role in encouraging me to return to the desire to learn did happen: mental instability.

At some point in this journey as a psychiatric patient and therapy participant, you realize that maybe you're not only not trying hard enough, maybe it's a lack of a deeper dive into therapy and that you can't necessarily have just being a patient. . And for me this was mainly at the time when the pandemic was full, I found myself unable to continue paying my therapist, I thought it was time to make certain changes, and decide to stop with therapy in order to use the money to go to the gym (which was included theme of therapies as well). The problem is that the more the financial situation became delicate, the more I realized that it wasn't going to work. And soon I was out of therapy and out of the gym.

This therapist I ended up losing was the first in all these years of seeking peace of mind that really qualified me and made a difference to my psychological health. And this was partly because she was the only psychologist in my city able to approach her therapeutic approach: a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with its due care and attention. And that seriousness made each session a catalyst for big changes for me. I always insisted on learning as much of the therapy's action protocols as possible, to become as independent as possible. And I see now that the great advantage of this approach itself is precisely the fact that cognitive behavioral therapy has a very intense relationship with protocols, lists, activities, methods. Much more practical and tactile than so many other approaches out there.

I still have no opportunity to invest money in a monthly treatment (which is not cheap), but I have been organizing little by little (still in my mind and not in real life) a project to study CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) as if to become a real psychologist. Take the books of the authors who proposed the model, study as much of this concept as possible and apply it to myself. Knowing the schemes and protocols I don't see why it wouldn't work. I think this could greatly help my eternal lack of discipline and mental organization. Because after all, it amazes me to think that all my problems are based on mental illusions, all that complicates my daily life and my life project are stupid waves of anxiety and illusory crises, they are not real problems. And honestly, if I'm not able to tame my brain in this life, to own myself without succumbing to bouts of mindless nuances, what am I capable of then?

It is really not coincidence that I stumbled upon your post. I, too, have been struggling with my mental health much more so than ever before since I also stopped seeing my therapist. Maybe I should also try to study about CBT on my own and see where it will take me. But still thank you for sharing this piece.

You welcome! Happy to share this kind of ideas. This moment in world looks so hard, more than we can hold. And it's very necessary find some ways to relief this type of internal crisis. Recently I quit psych meds, and this still affect me. I don't wanna more meds by now, so I need try something like that. Probably soon I post more details about my auto-therapy!

I definitely stop taking meds also for the same reason that it was harder to feel than when I am of it. I know it is different per person but I rather want to feel something sometimes which is hard because our feeling is not equal to how people feel things. I am also doing my research on how to self soothe myself. Hoping for the best really in the future
