Swimming as a tool to induce neurogenesis

CONTENT

Greetings dear friends and followers, before getting into the topic in question, let us first address the following question: What is neurogenesis? Neurogenesis is understood as the physiological process where new neurons are formed, remember that neurons are the specialized cells of the brain that are responsible for transmitting information to the rest of the body.

Theoretically, it is known that the brain has been labeled as a plastic organ that responds to various factors, which can positively or negatively influence the formation of new neurons, which in turn can generate a beneficial effect at the neurological level.

It is necessary to understand that as our body and brain age, neurons wear out. On the other hand, it is also important to point out that people who habitually consume liquor and smoke induce premature aging of the brain, since these habits deteriorate our neurons.

In this sense, it is worth mentioning that it has been proven that, through a healthy diet, control of emotions, neurological exercises, and even practicing some sport, it is possible to promote neurogenesis, that is to say, to induce the generation of new neurons and thus restore the health of our brain.

It is no secret that practicing a sport can help prevent some of the effects of aging. That said, it should be emphasized that recent research has revealed that swimming can contribute to neurogenesis and play a key role in helping to reverse or repair damage to neurons.

According to these scientific reports, it is suggested that at a neurological level, swimming could be used as a way to improve learning and repair memory damage caused by neuropsychiatric diseases in humans, an element that will undoubtedly be of great help to those people who for some reason or another have neuron wasting.

Great news for me.
I trained swimming for almost 10 years. I started when I took that discipline as an extra-academic subject at UDO, when I attended the first semester.
It was the best years of my physical condition, I felt very healthy back then.

Hello friend @juanmolina

Interesting, I also played sports in my formative years in college in my case athletics. I have always heard that swimming is the most difficult discipline and at the same time the one that achieves the best favorable results for our health.
