Plastic bags as a latent threat within land and water ecosystems

avatar

Plastic waste is considered a latent threat within any ecosystem, whether terrestrial or hydric (ocean, sea, river, beach, among others), because it generates serious impacts of a biological nature, mainly on aquatic fauna, as well as mortality by physical contact, specifically on fish, by causing asphyxiation through strangulation by entanglement with these synthetic materials. On the other hand, the fragmentation into particles suffered by plastic waste alters the chemical composition in these aquatic environments.

For this reason, and with the aim of contributing to this topic and more in this Christmas context, characterized by the purchase of products of all kinds that we acquire in multiple presentations and receive in plastic bags, hence, this time of year end has been considered throughout history, as the time when more plastic bags are used, which is why in this new delivery, I encouraged to socialize with friends of @ecoTrain content related to the prohibition of plastic bags as a conservationist strategy.

In this sense, it is worth mentioning that there are countries like Panama, where the use of plastic bags has been banned as a government strategy, in the quest to stop ecological damage to their beaches and, at the same time, help address what the United Nations has identified as one of the greatest environmental challenges on the planet.

These conservationist strategies, to prohibit the use of plastic bags, is already a concrete action that has taken an estimated 60 countries, whose measures range from total or partial ban, polyethylene plastic bags, are in some ways positive actions for the planet, however, is a clear economic setback for the industrial sector that manufactures plastic bags.

However, these actions to ban the use of plastic bags, beyond being considered an economic threat to the industrial sectors involved, should be interpreted as a great opportunity for these companies for the good of the planet, take the decision to design and manufacture other types of bags that are more friendly to the environment.

This initiative to ban plastic bags, has begun to be coined at the international level, in the search for creating public awareness, so that, from this experience will generate new approaches, aimed at providing real solutions, to curb the delicate problems of pollution by accumulation of plastics.
