¿Clonación natural en animales superiores? - Natural cloning in higher animals? [Esp - Eng]

Polli polli laid an egg! My 5-year-old daughter Samara said when she found that her pet, a black Creole hen, had left an egg in her cage. For her it was a great joy, but also a tremendous impact since she did not understand how she had done it if she did not have a partner, that is, a rooster that "stepped on" her. We try to explain that generally some oviparous animals, including birds, manage to lay eggs without the need for a male to fertilize them. These eggs are colloquially known as "ground" meaning that they are sterile. So a chick is not going to be born from there? She asked again and I quickly answered no. Then I hesitated because I remembered an article that I read months ago related to asexual reproduction in higher animals such as turkeys and in other groups of animals; reptiles (lizards and snakes specifically) and fish (sharks).

So I investigated more, but the more I reviewed, the more concerns arose. There are many reported cases of animals in captivity (zoos, nature reserves, public aquariums and others) belonging to the aforementioned groups that have managed to have fertile offspring and some of them have occurred in vulnerable or endangered animals. For specialists it is a mechanism to perpetuate the species and although it is not common or "very natural" it is an old form of procreation in some animals when a female finds herself without the male to copulate and fertilize her. However, they still do not know exactly why it occurs from a biological point of view, in other words, what activates such a mechanism

This has so far only occurred in higher animals where the identification of gender or sex genetically obeys laws other than those of humans and other mammals. But the most curious thing is that cases are already being reported where the females are accompanied by several possible partners of the other sex, but "they have preferred to self-fertilize." This represents an even greater mystery for scientists because it is inferred that these females are deciding how to reproduce and are precisely selecting a type of cloning (parthenogenesis, which is a form of reproduction based on the development of unfertilized female sex cells) that It was only identified in some small animals belonging to other kingdoms or other groups such as insects, worms, crustaceans and amphibians. In any cloning, the new individuals possess exactly the identical genetic load (DNA) to that of the being that is giving rise to them, however, in the Komodo Dragon the females only produce male children. It is likely that these events have always occurred in nature without so many limitations, but they had not been observed or documented.

But Samara's reasoning confused me even more when she then concludes that this is how the Virgin Mary could have become pregnant. It was when I was speechless and decided to leave the conversation there.
