Marcus Hutchins, from hero to almost convicted

So a little over 2 years ago a worldwide cyber attack surfaced us the ransomware WannaCry which infected a large number of users around the world forcing the usrs of the system to pay a certain amount of bitcoin before gaining access to their computers.

A little while after the breakout of WannaCry, malware researcher Marcus Hutchins also known as MalwareTech on Twitter came up with a temporary solution for stopping the spread of the malware.

It happened that the buzz generated by the solution created by the cybersecurity whiz led the authorities to link him to the creation of another malware that was sold on AlphaBay forums.

Hutchins was arrested in August 2017 while attending the DEF CON conference in Las Vegas due to his indictment on six hacking related federal charges in the United States.

The charges included the implication that he had created and sold Kronos, a banking malware.

Since then, Hutchins had remained in the US on bail.

In April of this year, Hutchins pleaded guilty to two charges relating to the creation of the malware.

However, due to the cumulative amount of positive impact Hutchins has had in the cybee security community, the judge has decided to strike out the charges and slap Hutchins lightly with a time served sentence and one year of supervised release.

Meanwhile, Hutchins has taken to Twitter to thank the judge for being lenient with him
