Sustainable Regeneration is the option to Regenerate and Repair the Planet.

SUSTAINABLE REGENERATION IS THE ONLY WAY TO RECONCILIATE WITH THE PLANET.

It is not enough to put sustainability thinking into practice to change climate change, as it is necessary to replenish and restore. This is where sustainable regeneration comes in.

After the vindication of the concept of sustainability in the Brundtland report, where it was defined that this is the key to face climate change and the environmental issue in the near future, the term sustainable arrived, which refers to something that is maintained over time, at a certain rate or level. And when we associate it to the environment, it refers to avoid the decrease of natural resources and thus contribute to maintain an ecological balance.

It should be noted that this ecological balance does not currently exist. Last July 29th was the day of the Earth's overcapacity, that is to say that with only 7 months so far this year we have already consumed all the available resources that the planet can generate in a year. This is undoubtedly a very alarming point because if we continue at this rate of consumption and expenditure of natural resources, two planets would be necessary to maintain the pace of life and the current economy of this planet.

So having understood this, is sustainability what we really need to make the change to improve the planet, reduce emissions and pollution when today there are too high levels?

And the answer to that is yes and no. Yes, because sustainability emphasizes stopping harming the planet, as well as raising awareness about natural resources and their indiscriminate use. And no, because with so much evil caused, this is not enough to fix the whole problem. That is why it is necessary to generate a new concept that would be: regeneration or sustainable regeneration; this concept goes beyond sustainability, not only to fight to avoid the damage, but to repair it, that is to say, to regenerate it.

From sustainability to regeneration.

To help all this it is extremely necessary to replace and restore everything that has been destroyed and lost from the planet, it is no longer enough just to "heal" the environmental, economic or social wounds. And this is exactly what regeneration proposes

sustainable, a concept that seeks to build economies and communities where the planet thrives as well.

On climate change there are many open fronts to solve, but building a carbon-neutral circular economy and building resilient infrastructures are key to curbing global warming.

It's not just about fighting climate change, but mitigating and adapting to its effects.

But how can we achieve this?

The pillars of regenerative sustainability.

Change is already underway. Right now we have an unparalleled opportunity to reshape the way we live, learn, and work on this planet. But for this transformation we need 3 fundamental pillars.

-Planet: Regenerative action must first address climate, positive change for a circular economy and society, water, and biodiversity. It is no longer just about seeking decarbonization or zero CO2 emissions, it is now about working on projects that leave a positive net impact and seek ways to reduce the emissions that have been released into the atmosphere.

-People: Social and environmental justice are closely linked. And for these to become sustainable, institutions and businesses need to adopt an intersectional approach, addressing all inequalities along with the climate crisis we are currently experiencing.

-Good governance: Incorporating sustainability management into the economic-financial function is imperative but of utmost importance, how? With the help of a better degree of transparency, efficiency and ethics.

It is not a matter of stopping degradation, but of repairing.

For a long time our economic model has been developing in a linear fashion, continuously extracting resources and generating large amounts of waste.

Why is this happening? Since the Industrial Revolution began, it has been based on an extractive, produce and dispose thinking put into practice.

That economic model is totally inefficient, and abusive of natural resources, based on fossil fuels.

But that model is now old, so we have moved on to sustainable thinking and logic, where we give back to the environment what we take from it.
In this logic we can give back to the environment much more than what we take from it, this is the way to reintegrate the ecological deficit.

The times in which we live today require us to be more adaptable, and stronger. That is why we need infrastructures that are capable enough to replenish and restore what the planet has lost because of us humans. Together we can work in favor of nature and create a harmony for the survival of the earth and those who inhabit it.
