Comencemos con las funciones polinómicas/Let's start with the Polynomial Functions

Fuente/Source

The function P (x) = a n x n + a n-1 x n-1 +. .. + a 1 x + a 0 , where a n is different from zero, it is known as a polynomial function of n-th degree. The numbers to a n , a n-1 , ..., a 1 , a 0 are known as the coefficients of that function.
Depending on the degree of the polynomial that defines the polynomial function, some particular functions emerge, they are the following:

Constant Function

The constant function is defined by a polynomial of degree 0, that is: f (x) = b, where b is a constant, that is, any real number.

Let's see that its graph corresponds to a horizontal line.

y el Rango de f es el conjunto unitario: {b}

In the graph it is observed that the Domain of f is the set: and the Range of f is the unit set: {b}

Let's move on to an example where b = -3, that is: f (x) = - 3
Its graph is the following:

función constante-3.png

En ella se observa que el Dominio de f es y el Rango de f es el conjunto unitario {-3}

In it it is observed that the Domain of f is and the Range of f is the unit set {-3}

Identity function

The identity function is the function of the form f (x) = x, it is a polynomial of degree 1 and coefficient a 1 = 1. The Domain and Range of this function is the set of real numbers, that is:
Its graph corresponds to a line that passes through the origin and divides the first and third quadrants into two congruent parts.

Lineal funtion

The linear function is defined by a polynomial of degree 1 with coefficients a 1 = m and a 0 = b, where m and b belong to the real numbers. It is important to note that the identity function is a special case of the linear function with m = 1 and b = 0.
This is the general form of the linear function : f (x) = mx + b, whose Domain and Range are determined by
Example f (x) = 2x-1, below its graph.

Quadratic function

The quadratic function is determined by a polynomial of degree 2, that is:
f (x) = ax 2 + bx + c, where a 2 = a different from 0, where a 1 = bya 0 = c any real number. The graph of this function represents a parabola in the plane.
The following graph corresponds to the function f (x) = x² - 4x + 3.

The Domain of this function is the set of real numbers but the Range is determined by all the y values that go from -1 to this is [-1, )

Ejemplo f(x) = 2x3 + 3x2 – 12x.
He aquí su gráfica:

The cubic function

The cubic function is defined by a polynomial of degree 3, that is, f (x) = ax 3 + bx 2 + cx + d; where a 3 = a is a real number other than 0, and the coefficients a 2 = b, a 1 = c and a 0 = d are any real numbers.
This function has as Domain and Range the set of real numbers.
Example f (x) = 2x 3 + 3x 2 - 12x.
Here is its graph:

Generalizando

Generalizing

When n (degree of the polynomial is greater than 3 ( n > 3) the plolinomial function defined by it does not have a specific name, its graph will always correspond to a curve in the plane R 2 . Its Domain is the set of real numbers and the Range will be determined according to its definition and the resulting graph. For example, the graph of the function g (x) = x 4 - 2x 2 , is the following:
