Apple is running a team that studies satellite technology.

Bloomberg News reported that a few months ago Apple began hiring new software and hardware experts for the team. The engineer was experienced in parts design for telecommunications equipment, with additional executives in aerospace and wireless data communications.

John Penwick, Google's aerospace division, and satellite engineer Mike Trella are known to lead the team. Those who moved to Apple in early 2017 are working on satellite technology development and have been intensively working for months.

The direction of the project is not known exactly, but Tim Cook Apple sees it as a "corporate priority" and aims to achieve meaningful results within five years.

The media predicted that Apple would be thinking of developing its own satellite communication technology and providing Internet services directly to users. This means that you can make calls and use the Internet without a carrier like AT & T or Verizon.

It can also be used to enhance apps. Bloomberg says the goal may be to reduce reliance on carriers, but it could be a process of updating many app features, such as maps, navigation and iMessage, by providing accurate location.

As early as 2021, VR headsets, AR glasses, or products in the company will be used for the "satellite", the foreign media said.

Forbes predicts that devices like Apple are unlikely to build their own rockets or satellites, and are more likely to use Space X's Starlink. However, it is not known what the two companies have planned.

An Apple spokesman made no comment on foreign media reports.
