Greetings to all and sundry on this platform once again. As a biochemistry student, I researched "The Human brain, its structure, and functions" today and decided to share it with you guys here. I hope that you will enjoy it and also learn from it. Stay tuned with me as I discuss this topic in my article.

Okay, so today basically we are going to look at the human brain, its structure, and some functions of the brain in general. The Human brain as we all know is located in the skull of vertebrates and it's made of soft nervous tissues. The brain functions as the central coordinating organ of the human body. Basically, the brain is grouped into three main parts: the forebrain, the midbrain, and the hindbrain. We would discuss these three parts in detail here in this article.

The Forebrain

The forebrain as the name suggests is the anterior part of the human brain and it comprises three parts; they are the cerebrum, the thalamus, and the limbic system. The thalamus is situated between the cerebral cortex and the mid-brain and also above the brain stem. The thalamus is responsible for carrying sensory information that comes from the body to the cerebrum and the limbic system.

Hypothalamus is also another structure that lies beneath the thalamus and it functions by connecting the nervous system with that of the endocrine system through the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland on the other hand is responsible for growth and reproduction and it is a pea-shaped structure found within the brain.

We take the limbic system now, this structure is found between the thalamus and the cerebrum and it's an arch-shaped structure that performs the following functions; the control responses such as anger, fear, sexual responses, hunger, and thirst.

We look at the cerebrum now, and this is grouped into 2 halves called the cerebral hemisphere. It has an outer region called the cerebrum, and it communicates with the aid of the corpus collosum. The cerebrum is responsible for controlling speech. It also helps humans in their movement and it's also responsible for determining the intelligence of humans and sensory processing as well.

The Mid-brain which is found above the hind-brain and below the cerebral cortex is responsible for regulating reflex movements of the human body and also hearing reflexes too.

Lastly, the Hind-brain which is found at the backside of the brain consists of three parts which include; the cerebellum, pons, and medulla oblongata. The cerebellum located at the backside of the human brain is responsible for regulating the balance of the human body. It also helps in coordinating voluntary movements.
Pons also known as a bridge are situated above the medulla and it is responsible for regulating the pattern of breathing and also regulates sleep as well. Lastly, the medulla oblongata which is also the posterior of the brain is responsible for regulating automatic actions such as heart rate, breathing, blood circulation, and swallowing.
