NUCLEAR FUSION: EACH DAY NEAREST

For once, good news. The needle in the haystack. According to ITER, nuclear fusion is closer. The scientists predict that by 2025 they will be able to obtain the first plasma of deuterium tritium, thus advancing in nuclear fusion.

Which is nuclear fusion? As a summary, I will simply say that it is the chemical reaction produced in the sun and stars, releasing huge amounts of energy. To achieve this, it is necessary to join 2 isotopes of hydrogen and one of tritium, overcoming its natural repulsion.

A giant step for humanity that would solve its energy problems.

To all this, and before continuing with the subject, I would like to make a shamefully simple comparison between fission and nuclear fusion procedures. The first uses the repulsion produced between the elements to produce electricity. This repulsion results in waste, difficult to manage once produced. For its part, the merger is based on the union, eliminating the problem of these residues. Apart from that, the energy release is infinitely greater, solving the energy problems of the planet.

After this, I return to the subject with a small note: nuclear fusion already exists.

In 1997, the production of 17 MW was achieved through the fusion method, an insufficient quantity, which would be insufficient for the commercialization of this energy. The ITER, an organization composed of 35 countries - Russia, China, South Korea, the US, Japan and the EU - intends to reach 500 MW, thus inaugurating the commercial production cycle of fusion energy.

When is the scope of that objective foreseen? Well, at the beginning of the article, we were talking about 2025: but that is the date of obtaining the first plasma, and commercial energy cannot be obtained until, they calculate, the year 2035. Therefore, experts are working on the Tokamak, a donut-shaped structure where the particles that, at very high temperatures, will give rise to energy generation are housed.

In a world where energy is scarce and resources dwindling, news such as nuclear fusion is a ray of hope. A truce in the endless apocalyptic speeches, which bombard our shoulders day by day as well. Hopefully the merger relieves oil and coal, giving life to a clean and safe world.
