The Shinjuku 3D Cat

In Tokyo, if you visit the Shinjuku area then you must come to this building to watch this tech marvel. It's one of the most watched screen in the area. Shinjuku station first of all is like a maze, there are many exits and one can easily get lost here. I would always check on google which exit to take to make it a small walk to my destination. The east exit was the shortest walk to our hotel and luckily this building is right opposite the station east exit. Every time we would get off the station, and walk to our hotel, I would pause here for couple of minutes to see this Calico Cat fun.

This is a 3D LED screen, and looks so real when you see the visuals, you will feel like the cat is really throwing things around or is jumping. It's a 3D visual but you do not need any 3D glasses. This has started some time in 2021 and since then become a hot spot for the tourist. Many people visit here just for this cat. It's a very clever illusion created. The screen is bent at a angle and this is what makes it feel so real tricking the brain. A flat screen cannot create such an effect, but the curve and the angle makes it look like real. It's a very high resolution visual and very well detailed.

The trick is to see the real effect of the visual from one particular spot, if we see it from other sides then the visual does not give the similar effect. This cat wakes up every day at 7 a.m. and goes on until 1 a.m. in between there are other visuals and ads also. This particular cat visual goes on for around 3 minutes and then there is an ad or another visual. I am sure there are many other such billboards in the world with this kind of illusions but this one for sure is very popular.

Taking a photo is no phone, it's best to take a video of this cat. It is said that when this was installed it was not made with this intention of making it a tourist attraction, but it just picked up on Insta and Tik Tok and become famous and now it's Shinjuku's landmark. It's quite a fun to watch, every time I would pause here for couple of minutes and watch it.

In the picture also it really feels like a cat is sitting up there and watching down

There are other visuals also but they are not as attractive as the cat.

Next to it is a very fancy pub

This area is very popular with the tourist and is buzzing almost through the night.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

That is very clever, bending the screen to create the illusion that the cat is in 3D. What an awesome idea someone came up with there. I would want to stop and watch it too! If I ever make it over to Tokyo I'll have to check that out.

Looks like there are some other great spots like the pub nearby, so it's got to be a great place to visit. Thanks for sharing such a cool cat!

Truly fascinating! I've seen some images of the famous 3D cat in Shinjuku, and the effect is incredible, especially considering it's created on a regular screen installed on a building. I love that a simple tech advertisement has become a real tourist attraction. Thanks for the photos and for sharing it.
