De-Yellowing Old Computer Plastic - Experiments in "Retrobrite"

Old computers tend to go yellow as they age. Really old computers tend to yellow the most, and lately I have been playing with really old computers and consoles from the dawn of the personal computer age.

Not everyone de-yellows, and for the most part that includes me. On these machines I won't be doing everything, just the really bad yellowed parts of the cases (the greys and creams don't look so bad).

Regardless they get a good bath, being hopefully careful enough that I don't lose any sprints down plug holes!

There are many guides out there to "retrobrite" your plastic, but all of them are pretty vague about the exact recipe because pretty much everybody uses trial and error.

To make it even more of a pain, by the time I got the salon product at the correct concentration, our snow season started, which will last at least until May 2021.

I set up some UV LED lights and my nail curing station that I use for when I have large quantities of resin 3D printing to cure. Figure it will take a lot longer than the Texas YouTubers experience using the sun!

I never knew you could de-yellow in the first place.

There's some chemistry going on that I don't understand but apparently the combination of hyrdroxide, UV and heat (maybe) works some magic :)

I might try it out one of these days and see if I could get some okay results.
