Reading Reflection – Trust Betrayal, Chapters 1 4.png

Introduction

Trust and Betrayal In The Workplace, chapters one through four introduces the reader to the three dimensions of trust, also known as the ‘Three Cs of Trust’. The three dimensions covered were the trust of character, the trust of communication, and the trust of capability.

Summary

In this week's reading, we are introduced to three dimensions of trust. The authors begin with what they refer to as the four pathways and write about trust beginning with you.

They go on, in chapter two to discuss the first dimension of trust which is trust in character. They share six behaviors that contribute to the trust of character which is: manage expectations, establishing boundaries, delegate appropriately, encourage mutually serving intentions, keep agreements, and be consistent.

In chapter three, we dove into trust in communications that deal with six behaviors that contribute to ot communication trust. These behaviors are: share information, tell the truth, admit mistakes, give and receive constructive feedback, maintain confidentiality, and speak with good purpose. Chapter four finished out the three dimensions of trust with trust of capability and the four behaviors that contribute to this trust. These behaviors were: acknowledge people skills and abilities, allow people to make decisions, involve others and seek their input, and help people learn skills.

Analysis

I found the first four chapters of this book to be highly informative to me and my continued and focused endeavor to be a better leader and person.

As with our previous readings in this course, I stepped out of myself, sat on my supervisor and peers' side of the table, and then reviewed the chapters again. Taking this approach gave me a motivation boost because I believe I am trustworthy and do live up to expectations in this regard. However, I plan to review these chapters again to determine potential weaknesses and strengths to work on.

Conclusion

This reading showed me that I am trustworthy and was a motivation boost because much of the course so far has exposed large gaps in my leadership tool kit.

This is a continuation of my series of posts I will be making in which I share some of my course work toward my Doctor of Technology degree with a concentration in Leadership and Innovation. Please share any thoughts you may have or would like to share on this topic.

Thanks,
Joe B.
