New device created to eliminate air pollution

Greetings colleagues, this time I bring you something that caught my attention and as I was not pleased to know that results are being obtained in this area of technology. As you surely know, the ozone layer is being destroyed progressively and rapidly, so there are increasing efforts being made to reduce pollution and the sources that cause all this.

And engineers and scientists are no exception, those responsible for creating this device are MIT, this new method / device seeks to solve in a more efficient way the problem mentioned above, so after evaluating what is available today, as this is not the first device that can remove CO2 from the air, but if the first that can do so under any concentration, since the other models available on the market do not operate but under strict standards of CO2 concentration in the air, so they could not be used as simply as it seems.

I know you might be a little sceptical about believing that the air can be cleaned of pollution, but this is a reality. As I mentioned before, these machines usually operate in environments with such a high concentration of pollutants as a thermoelectric plant or those that use fossil fuel to produce energy.

This system basically works by introducing a blast of air through a set of electrochemically charged plates, which when fully charged with CO2 gives off a discharge of clean air so to speak and the CO2 would keep it stored for later use, of course there is also the possibility that as it is charging is releasing clean air, something like an alternative or intermittent mode.

Here's a video that shows what's been explained in a great way

The system also described as a battery, (so it is "charged") works almost that by natural affinity, since the carbon electrode batteries, are coated with polyanthraquinone. When charged, they react easily with air molecules or the gas that feeds them in spite of being in low concentrations.

By applying the reverse reaction (discharge) this device can provide some of the energy needed for the operation of the system while expelling pure carbon dioxide. In addition, the system can operate at room temperature and under normal air pressure, so it does not have to be in a laboratory environment to operate.

Now an important point made by Voskian (member of the team responsible for the battery), is that thanks to this process could take advantage of pure CO2 for example to be used in various industries such as bottling soft drinks, greenhouses or even injected underground for long-term disposal and because not in fuel by various chemical and electrochemical processes.

The system at the moment has proven to have at least a resistance to 7000 cycles (loading and unloading) with a loss of efficiency of about 30% in that course. The system is expected to improve to withstand between 20000 and 50000 cycles.

In terms of energy consumption this system has proven to be more effective than others, as this for half a ton of CO2 uses 1 GJ. On the other hand, other devices for one ton use between 1 and 10 GJ.

The researchers have set up a company called Verdox to commercialize the process, and hope to develop a pilot-scale plant within the next few years, he says. And the system is very easy to scale up, he says: "If you want more capacity, you just need to make more electrodes. Source

Thank you for reading my post, I don't say goodbye without wishing you a great day, evening or night.

@jjqf, In my opinion there is no Perfect Solution. Most important aspect is good intentions and implementation of those Intentions in Practical Form to contribute towards the well being of Natural Ecosystem.

Have a great time ahead and stay blessed.

Well, since the 80's I have heard about the problem of the hole in the ozone layer and the problem of climate change and its dangerous effects on the survival of life on earth as we know it.

Because of this, everything that is done to reduce problems or correct those that have already been committed in terms of human contamination is something that I like and consider good.

I think I have read on other occasions about purification or air filtration devices, I think it was a colleague from China who once told me about its adoption by many people where I was because the pollution was very strong, but I am not sure if it would be with a technology similar to the one you mention in this post, I think this is much more recent and you may have to check a bit to be sure.
