Keyboards Are SO Last Century

(Edited)

Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!

An article about a new invention caught my eye the other day. It's called the Tap Strap and it allows users to replace conventional keyboards by using just one hand to tap words, commands and even gestures in any Blue Tooth device.

1demonstration.jpg
source

I know, I know, there are already non keyboard apps in the form of voice to text, but there are a thousand situations that you don't want to or would not be able to use a voice app to text with.

The Tap Strap allows one to use either hand on any surface.

You DO have to learn how to use it, they say it takes about 2 hours to learn the Alphabet with it and about 5 hours of playing around time with games designed to help you master the program.

type-on-sofa.jpg
source

This thing is really slick. I think it's going to be a big hit and change the way some of us access our devices forever. We've been using the keyboard for 150 years and it's done it's job well but this tool takes us to the next level.

The battery lasts for 10 hours on one charge and the price is just $199. One advantage is the ergonomics of it.

In other words, you don't have to be trapped in the same typing position all day, which causes many people to develop Carpel Tunnel syndrome.

TAP__0965-2.jpg
source

With this, you can tap in any position on any surface, even on the handle bars of your bike while out riding.

The newest version has a Minority Report-style feature that will make you feel like you're in a syfi movie. It lets you control any Bluetooth-connected device with a wave of your hand.

dims.jpg
source

In the Multimedia Mode you can can use airborne gestures to play and pause music, adjust volume and skip to the next or previous track. In the Smart TV Mode you can navigate menus, select items and search for content.

In Mouse Mode you can control a cursor, click and scroll just like you would with a normal mouse.

the-tap-strap-2.jpg
source

This is also extremely liberating for people who only have the use of one hand.

a0esw215rr.png

Times they are achangin! I predict that in a year or so you just ain't gonna be cool unless you're using one of these. lol.

Thanks for stopping by folks, God bless you all!

PS- Here's a couple more sculptures I think are fun. This first one has to be designed with such a strong anchor. You KNOW kids are going to be jumping all over that thing and riding it!

oy7ld7ydxt.png
source

It's kinda freaky. This next one is fun. It looks simple but I think making a perfect giant clothes pin probably wasn't the easiest thing in the world, although I have no idea why they'd want to but it sure is clever!

Howdy squirrelbait! It's so true that everything will be connected, digitalized, every little tool or item with so many ways to keep track of us. And of course already is! The Tap devices probably take all your vitals and sends them to someone!
I like the sculpture too!

Yes, with this system you can be in any position that is comfortable for you!
You can buy one here: https://www.tapwithus.com/

I think they are going to do extremely well. We actually invested in their company
this week, they have a crowd funding system set up so that small investors can participate.
Thanks for the tip!

lol..same reaction I had to the clothes pin sculpture. Cute but I don't know what the artist is trying to say.

As far as the Tap Strap, I agree, who knows what they can develop in time. Mrs. J and I actually invested in this company, they have a crowd funding system set up for small investors. It's so cool that I really think all the kids and young people will have to have them. The Asia market is looking fantastic for it too.

I agree about the tap strap. It would be much more useful when you have VR goggles on than a key board would be. I think that will be a wise investment for you.

Very true and it's interesting to think of what it will evolve into in the future. The two co-creators of the company are very successful at creating technology.

The lady developed the type of chip which enables phones to take pictures and the man has several major creations too, I forget what they are but he's very impressive.

Today has been a good day for you? When does the Pack play again?

Sunday at noon against the Raiders at Lambeau.

That sounds like it will be a great investment for you!

It has been a very non productive day. I stumbled upon a Canadian produced TV series called Pioneer Quest, which lead me to Klondike Quest-gold miners and Quest for the Bay (Hudson Bay Orkney men) People are challenged to live off the land for months on end with only the resources that would have been available to them in the 1800s. The pioneers had to build their own cabins and break sod to plant their crops, and the gold miners had to pack everything on their backs over the mountains to get to Dawson City. The challenges they all faced were incredible. The shows are on Amazon.

0

avatar

Holy smokes! I'm exclaiming about that series, or shows about surviving in that way like they did in the 1800's. Those people would have to be in great shape! There are so many lesser known shows that are such good quality that no one has heard about!

How are the Raiders doing this year?

0
0
0.000
avatar
(Edited)

They all went through an extensive selection process for physical abilities and psychological issues, because in the case of the pioneer families they would be living away from people and from their own families and friends for a year. The Hudson Bay trip was only 8 weeks, but they had to be strong enough to carry heavy packs and move their heavy, cumbersome, wooden boat on a mile long portage. It was certainly challenging for everyone involved and some were more successful than others.

The Raiders are 3 and 2.

0

They should be able to beat the Raiders then.
Wow that show sounds remarkable! There are two shows right? The one they had to be away for a year! I hope they paid them well. And you can only get those on Amazon?

0

avatar

I watched them on Amazon. There were 3 different series. I finished the one about Klondike gold miners last night. They came up as recommended for me after I watched Snowdonia about 2 families in Wales who went back to live the lives of slate quarry men in the 1800s.

I get it included with Amazon Prime which is $119 a year and gets me free shipping on Amazon purchases, too. Since I can't get out to the stores I buy everything I can online so it is a bargain for me.

It's a good price for the freedom from a keyboard, that seems to be very appealing to the youth and I think the company is going to explode in growth and sales.

I hope so because we actually invested in it, they have a crowd funding system where small investors can participate so we did that.

Hey Jonboy, all the hands in the photos are all right hands. I wonder if this means that everyone would have to do this with their right hand, even if they write left-handed? I think the normally quiet lefties will protest if that's the case! :)

Howdy sir free-reign! No this is designed for either dominant hand. I agree, they should have photos of lefties using it also! Are you a lefty? someone said lefties have a higher IQ generally speaking so you probably are. lol.

Nope, I'm a righty. My mother was a lefty, and she used to tell me and my sister about when she was a little girl going to school - the teacher hit her hand with a ruler when she would write left-handed, which was the only way she could write.

My mother didn't seem too smart to me, God bless her, though she was somewhat smarter than my dad, so I'm not sure about the validity of that left-handed IQ thing. :)

All these new fangled gadgets make my head spin. 😂

I don’t use the voice command on my iPad as I’m usually in the same room as Hubby and he doesn’t need the distraction of me talking continually. Tv may also be on.

For the same reason I don’t go into any of the chat room .

I like the sculpture of the clothes pin. Must be the biggest one in the world. 😆

Howdy today redheadpei! So it sounds like this new device would work for you, if you didn't want to be tied to the keyboard. I think it's cool because you aren't forced to sit in one position all the time, because that's unhealthy.

I like that giant clothes pin too, I'd like to know the reason the sculptor chose a clothes pin though!

That looks so neat! I'm always fascinated by new gadgets and, yes, you're right about the keyboard being old and tired. It certainly has survived the test of time, though. I bet authors in particular would be able to make great use of this.

Exactly sir wwwiebe. It allows you to walk around and write which is good because we know that sitting all day is not healthy, not to mention so many people developing carpal tunnel.

I think the youth are going to go crazy for this. I hope so because we actually invested in the company. They have a crowd funding system set up so we participated.

Hi @janton! I always ask, "what are the going to come up with next?" and here is my answer. I can see why it would be popular but I just can't imagine me using something like that. Gadgets like these make me feel so old. Would I feel younger if I used it? LOL! Hope you are doing well. : )

I'm doing great and yes you would feel younger using this tool. lol. I'm the same way, in another year most people will be using this or at least have it to use as an option and I'll be the dinosaur with my ancient keyboard!

Not for me Sir @janton, I am ambidextrous and have two right hands and two left hands. I think that I will have to wait for the one that works with the blinking eye lids.
In the meantime this old keyboard serves me very well, as it is used to my typing with one finger.
When the right hand gets lame of all the typing, I simply switch to the left hand hahaha.

Yes I know about the voice ones(and I know you've had trouble with them because they can't understand freakin Hillbilly very well) but these are for when you can't use voice. Besides with these they are bringing new features and abilities all the time. They're making units that are wearable screens too. And of course the new tricks for gamers they are developing are really amazing.

I never play games but man, what an insane multi-billion dollar business. I think that is insane at the same time though, so many people of all ages addicted to games. When we used to take the grandkids to the game store wwe were always shocked at how many of the customers were in their 40's!

The optical keyboards are becoming more functional every day. I want one that will project from my belt onto my pants legs, with a bifurcated keyboard; half on each leg.

But the vocal, combined with a mouse function tied to eyeball movement will be the eventual winner. The eye tracking is being used to track weapons already....

I have played a few, mainly to see how they were written.

I built my first full computer in 1978, including the monitor and keyboard. Stored the data on cassettes. I expanded the memory on that Sinclair from 2K to 18K. Bought my first commercial one in 1985.

I have used 8 inch floppy drives, on a Data General PDP-11 to run a loading rack in 1980.

I have used core memory, bubble memory, static memory, and dynamic memory.

I still use floppies to store data I don't want anyone to be able to find. They would Never look there....

I have Used CPM, DOS, Windows, Unix, Linex, Basic, assembler, Sun Sparc System, Fortran, C++, Autocad, tiny basic, Ecap, Labview, Nibble Basic, Apple (various), Android, and a dozen others I have forgotten, LOL!

I had to build most of it in 1978. In 1985 I bought a 286 with 2 Meg of RAM and a 40 Meg hard drive, and it cost me $1500.00; then I spent another $90.00 for a math co processor. I had a neighbor, who did programming come over to see it. He asked me why I needed so much horsepower in a home PC.

I had a Kim one before that, but it was more of an industrial controller.

I picked up a liberal Troll on my steemit page....
