Authorities Looking To Streamline Travel With Biometric Border Processing

Biometric technology is being used increasingly at airports and border areas around the world in an effort to enhance security screenings. It's a new era of identification, one where your biometric identification is your new passport.

Not only is it being used for border security but this technology is also being deployed in private areas as well, with companies looking to use it to screen employees for health and attendance.

The new biometric security system in Australia is now reportedly live and is going to be used by the Department of Home Affairs.

Authorities will be using the biometric technology to help them with visa and border processing. It will be using both fingerprint and facial recognition algorithms.

They will be scanning the biometric data for those who are looking to travel to Australia, who might have tried to obtain a visa and applied through the process, and will be looking at facial images too along with citizen applications.

Eventually, this sort of streamlined system might help to do away with more common screening methods that we've been accustomed to experiencing when we travel. For Australian officials, they reportedly had the goal of trying to make this a possibility by 2020. They wanted at least 90 percent of international travel arrivals to be coming through this paperless security route, by using biometric processing methods.

The point of embracing this technology is to allegedly improve the travel experience so that it becomes 'seamless' and perhaps eventually it will do away with traditional passports or plane tickets as we know it, all you will need is your fingerprint and face to be scanned.

But not many are going to want to go through that in order to go on vacation with their loved ones.

Will every airport embrace the change?

There might be a few that opt out but as more border security authorities look to make the same change, it will be more difficult to get away from for those who are looking to avoid it while traveling.

Airports in Australia and other regions have already been testing a passport-free process for travel, opting for biometric check-ins instead.

This multi-million dollar project for Australia has been years in the making, as it has in other places as well. Many travelers have already gone through check-ins by using this form of verification, for others it might only be a matter of time.

This is good news, especially to improve people's travel experience, waiting time can be deadly
I think that most aureports should opt for this technology.
