Old School Wooden Incubator!

Hey everyone, a few of you that follow me here know that I am in the Poultry business. We import plastic incubators from China which are modular, lightweight, designed well, cost effective and work efficiently, However....

Back in the day incubators for the breeding of fowl used to be done like this and it still is, on a smaller scale though!

One of my clients came here to purchase eggs from me and had this in his car. Very well made however, there are a few issues. Namely Incubators are bacteria breeding grounds, an unvarnished unit is really not a good idea as it will not last and cleaning it an impossibility. The client will need to treat this before incubation!

This is a manual unit, which means the eggs are not automatically turning, which can be a little of an issue when there is no one present to turn the unit. This was made by an old man who does this part time as a hobby and all albeit all that, was rather impressed with the build quality.

The plastic units we import from China are lightweight, automatic, energy efficient and render 80% hatch rates and above, Generally around 80% or more is considered a good hatching rate! These manual units heavy not the most efficient and hatch rates generally not that good. Old School VS New School!

Below a pic of the control unit. Very simple hygrometer (humidity meter) and thermometer. Three important factors whilst hatching chicks, Correct Temperature, Humidity as well as eggs needing to be turned atleast 5 times a day, Simulating how the mother Hen does it.

The poultry business in Africa is rather large, now all I need to is make my millions. LOL!
