Target and other large corporations have installed free charging stations in their stores. This service has been beneficial to both stores and shoppers. The shopper gets a free charge for their device and the store gets the shopper to pay more attention to their shopping/the shopper may spend more time shopping without their phone vs with their phone. For some shoppers its also a plus not to have to deal with their phone while trying to shop but still be able to have it nearby in case of an emergency.

"Customers charge their phones for 30 to 40 minutes while in the store. That is paying off for the retailers. Customers appreciate the convenience of recharging their phones in stores and, as a result, they stay 2.3 times longer than they otherwise would have. According to scientific tests by the company, that extra time is building sales. These customers spend 47% more than the average shopper. That is good news for the stores who have installed the units. Phones are recharged by customers all day, but the data shows that the most need seems to be around 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. when phones run out of their charge."

Retail Innovation: Recharge Your Phone At Target, Bloomingdale's Or The Gap For Free

Normally, companies like ChargeItSpot, would charge the store to install and run a charging station. Community Charge's goal is to install charging stations in small businesses and public common areas for "free". By "free" we mean in exchange for space and if needed, a power supply. We pay for the charging stations and their maintenance through station ad revenue, token sales, and donations.
