The Last Good Mac

13" MACBOOK PRO 2013 EDITION

πŸ‘‰π•Šπ•¦π•“π•”π•£π•šπ•“π•–πŸ‘ˆπŸ½

This is my computer - the Apple 13" MacBook Pro from late 2013. It's my 7 year old workhorse that I bought for nearly Β£1000.

I was ridiculed by my mates back then for spending so much money on a computer, but they've all since eaten their hats. Most of them have replaced their flimsily made PCs at least twice, some trice, since then. They've also spent more money and time that I have on their gear.

Today, in 2020, this little beast is still soldiering on. Granted, it can't handle the high end stuff anymore. Games have become too powerful. FinalCut Pro runs like a snail and Adobe Premiere Pro won't even load.

It is still perfectly capable for the things I need it to do, which is why I still use this as my main computer. iMovie runs even better than the first day I got it because Apple as since optimised it for the Core i5 chip. Blogging and word processing doesn't require any power not present in computers 30 years ago. Basic photo editing is also fine.

When Hive moons, I may decide to treat myself to the latest one (to use for another 6-7 years), but I doubt it would last as long as this one. Apple has since embraced planned obsolescence, like every other company, which is one of the reasons why this is known as the "last good mac".

Peace & Love,

Adé

Lol if you have a 2012 - 2013 Mac I say keep it, maybe buy some additional batteries, upgrade your RAM and get an SSD and you should be good to go, I use the same one. The latest ones are nice, but they are buy and throw away tools. Apple products are actually a best to wait to buy, why get the iPhone 12 I can wait for the 14 instead so at least when I do buy something I get a host of new features for my money, same with the Laptop

I agree 100%. If I were to sell it now, I wouldn't get much for it. It's basically worth much less than it's value right now. I also agree with the wait to buy thing. I went from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6s, and now 11. :)

Fairly impressive for sure. If it does what you need, why change. However, when they stop supporting it is probably time for a new one, because then you open yourself up to possible vulnerabilities down the road.

That's a good point. The updates are still coming for now. I guess I could always put Linux on it when that time comes :)

Ubuntu is not a bad OS.

I used to love Ubuntu back in the day. I installed it on my Eee PC - I don't know if you remember that tiny "netbook" thing :)
