Survival Saturday #20: The Super Still

Have you ever needed to distill down your ammonia so that you could make some ammonium nitrogen trioidide?
No?
Well good.
This still is not made for that.
You shouldn't use copper with ammonia, it isn't a pleasant experience and ruins your condenser!

But, if you need to run off a batch of mash to power your hot rod, this still couldn't be more for you!

You can vary your materials, experience is the best teacher.

Too many of us are afraid to experiment, imo.
If more of us got off the beaten paths we would leave smaller a smaller footprint.

Stop being their best cop.
You don't even get free donuts!

I am continually surprised by how averse people are to work. I blame public school for training people to avoid doing anything useful, and to favor begging instead.

It is useful to keep in mind that alcohol is highly flammable, and there is a reason that folks with experience with alcohol stills placed them in outbuildings. Anything made of iron eventually rusts, and what rusts eventually leaks. If alcohol fumes are leaking from a boiler over a flame, you'd rather find out what happens to it in a shed than your kitchen.

Thanks!

Lol, learning from experience can be a bitch.
I had a handful of sawdust and sulfuric acid because my guestimation was off.
Luckily I went light on the potassium chlorate, but overestimated the sawdust's buffering abilities.
Best, imo, to learn from watching others, rather than reading and experimenting.
The latter tends to stick better when things go wrong, but you don't always get a second chance to try again.
