Self-driving cars and their future

avatar

Have you ever driven a self-driving car? It is a rather unusual experience because when you are used to the steering wheel all your life, you using the brake... sometimes you get quite a whiff of negative emotions. The distrust of a self-driving car is given by our previous experience. But...somehow it just works.

In one of the interviews, the well-known "bitcoin advocate" Andreas M. Antonopoulos tried to think about what would happen if the idea of Bitcoin, Uber and the self-driving car came together. Let's say a senior Uber taxi driver would already use a self-driving car and cryptocurrency payments and suddenly pass away. The car would, therefore, continue to process the orders and get paid for them. This would create such a first taxi without human input. An interesting idea, if taxes were paid, it would probably not bother anyone.

If you add to this car also Artificial intelligence, that car could be unstoppable. It could drive to the service to get repaired and paying by earned Iota (for example). That would make a perfect Perpetuum mobile.

But we'll probably wait for that for a couple more years. Though, maybe it will only be a few years and not a few decades, as many car companies are developing autonomous systems, led by Elon Musk's Tesla.

I had one specific example of what could be done with such a self-driving car. You go to your birthday party and around midnight you want to go home. You just call your car (like in the TV series Knight Rider), it comes to the restaurant, loads you up and that's it. If cops stops you, you are okay, because you weren't driving. Maybe you need to sit on the co-driver seat to make them sure it was not you, who was driving.

We may not see flying cars as in the Fifth Element or Star Wars movies, but something similar to the movie I, Robot, it is possible that yes (it drives itself, navigates, talk to you...). But the non-self-driving cars will not be cut off from day to day. It will take really decades, if not centuries. There are still veterans cars, whose beauty is that they are old models of cars. The traditional ones.

The future will definitely be exciting, I look forward to it in some way. Although I am a bit concerned at the same moment. It will be certainly a controversial time. Imagine a virus in the operating system. But perhaps the engineers will get rid of them before massively deploying them to the streets.

@ritxi, In my opinion in this whole Automated and Artificial Process, only Human Beings are inactive. No matter what others think in my opinion this kind of Overly Technology steps is not good for the Human Beings.

Have a great time ahead and stay blessed.

I've never been in a car without a driver, but it sounds exciting, I may feel like a child again, something like when I first got on an airplane :)

I would like to see that future you raise, I hope and wish it was for good.

I hope so, but we can't say this for sure, that it will by just for good. But yes, the driving was exciting!

You drive an car? We not only use the break once in a while but the clutch and gear and our signals if we turn off. I wonder if you watch mmovie if you drive a car, can sit in the and sleep the whole. It is boring to just sit around able to your legs. The train would be better unless there is no room to sit, it stinks and is more expensive. A positive will be the social driver can no longer misbehave, no need to (an)use those great lights and blind other people. We can all drive in the dark. 👍

I tried it and I was not comfortable with giving all the rights to the car. It was not the best feeling :-D

Hi @ritxi

I think that as long as I live in Venezuela, getting into a car that is driving will only be very difficult, not impossible but far from the reality of what we live here.

However I do not doubt that one day I can do it, with regard to cryptocurrencies if it is closer to that happening that I can pay in a taxi with that kind of coins.

But something if I'm sure and I give you the Reason: The future will be very exciting. With this type of technology.

Greetings from Venezuela friend.

Can't say much!! , I hope the program drives the car properly, spot traffic, control speed. It's ok abroad where roads are good, but in India, roads and driving discipline is lacking. You still need someone to oversee, the driving of these cars, they can't ride in Indian roads, stopping, pot holes, drivers just rash driving, if it does, hurray!!! ... a computer is smarter or can be smarter than humans, they only think and process knowledge without distractions, humans have lot of distrations, a robot will be clear, cold and objective in seeing things. Anyway...

If there will be only automated cars, then yes it can be safer. But this will take time.

Hi dear @ritxi

Wooo friend sounds like a slightly crazy idea, something difficult for some to digest, but it is certainly something we can see in the future.

I try to imagine so many things that can be a reality in the future, based on the fact that we now enjoy things we never imagined seeing.

Dear @ritxi

Sorry for such a late comment. I took few days off from Steemit (have been experiencing burn-out lately) and I'm just catching up right now.

Have you ever driven a self-driving car?

I never had a chance. I wonder if people would require similar driving licence or different one. After all I can only imagine that set of skills should be quite different for those who drive regular cars or self-driving ones.

I've also a question for you: would you rather use uber taxi driver using regular car or self-driving (where your life is fully in hands of some algorythm)? So far I would still rather use current solutions.

Let's say a senior Uber taxi driver would already use a self-driving car and cryptocurrency payments and suddenly pass away. The car would, therefore, continue to process the orders and get paid for them

This example doesn't make much sense to me. Car itself cannot pay taxes, so you can assume that situations like the one described will be heavily regulated. Plus cars can be self-driving, however human will always be needed. For insurance reasons mostly. Someone need to be blamed if accident would happened.

Interesting read. Upvoted already :)
Cheers, Piotr

Hi @crypto.piotr, thanx for stopping by,
to your questions. Yes, I would choose uber driver rather than self-driving car :-D for sure
About the other thing - I think in the future car can pay taxes - checkout this interesting (short-3minutes) video about how can be used Cardano in accounting/invoicing. Those processes can be fully automated and I think it will be easier for everyone.
The insurance problem I don´t know, I haven´t study this at all so I really have no idea who will be responsible at this moment. Someone else asked this but I have no answer for you, sorry.

Thank you for your kind comment and sorry for replying so late.

May I ask you for little favour? I'm not sure if I did ask you about it already or not (hope I'm not repeating myself).
