DrupalCon Prague day 1

I’m writing this blog post from the beautiful city of Prague where I’m attending DrupalCon. Drupal is both a content management system and a platform for delivering large scalable websites and is probably second to Wordpress in terms of it’s use across the world. The company I’m working for uses it as the backend system but we don’t use the front end templates, we’ve built those using Vue.

The first day of the event started officially at 1:30pm to allow people time to get to the O2 Impressum and kicked off with a series of keynotes. We got there ahead of time, so had time to walk around and check out some of the sessions taking place.

What struck me was the amount of food and drink around the venue. Lots of veggie dishes, fruit juices, soft drinks, water and coffee to keep people refreshed. Loads of people in huddles with their computers and some rooms where people were making contributions to the open source core code. It was fascinating.

We grabbed lunch and then went into the welcome session followed by a series of keynotes relating to Drupal and it’s community of developers. Speakers introduced us to ways we could all chip in and help improve documentation and some of the core modules.

We attended a couple of sessions on topics relating to testing and found those useful in what we do at our company. Though some of it was irrelevant.

After that we went for a bit of a walk to explore the area our hotel is located in.

We hopped on the Metro to go into the old part of the city. The medieval centre.

We found a restaurant for dinner spent a few hours there and wrapped the evening up with a walk around the square and the famous Charles Bridge.
