My Man doing Manly Things

Did you ever have that moment when you heart dropped and your stomach lurched because of a tiny little icon? It is called the CHECK YOUR ENGINE light. It is dreaded because it is going to mean money and inconvenience. It is all that much worse when it happens while you are out of state and on vacation right after an amazing, but expensive, holiday.

This happened to us yesterday. We were on our way to church when that light came on and our vehicle started driving a little rougher, almost rumbling. It was not normal, and all I could feel was dread and dollar signs coming our way. It is what it is, and we will take care of whatever is coming our way, but I said a little prayer. I need divine help to stay calm and trust in HIS hands. I believe all things are for our good- no matter whether it is disguised in the seemingly bad.

Hubby got a diagnostic check done at an auto store. It was cylinder 2 misfiring. Okayyyyyyy. That doesn't sound good to me. It sounds like $$$$ and time in a shop and some inconvenience by way of not having a vehicle for a hot minute.

On the way home from church, other lights started flashing at us- LCW, FCW, VSA, and CHECK EMISSION SYSTEM. Every light flash was tempting my inner freak out light to flash. I opted to breathe, pray, and look things up on google instead. I also jokingly would say every now and again, "i'm fine, we're fine, it's fine." It sounded like the other lights came on as a result of the initial check engine light. Okay. That is good.

Hubby thinks it is Cylinder 2 and a spark plug needs to be replaced. "you can do that?!?" We have been married 20 years, and I didn't know this. What a guy. My guy. Taking care of things and bringing hope to this crazy wife of his.

He bought a spark plug, and we went to my brother-in-law's house to use his tools. Wouldn't you know it? This man of mine got into that mini-van and replaced the spark plug. I checked on him every now and then. His hands were dirty, including his face. He was confident. He handled those tools like a boss, and by the time I had finished helping clean house- he was done. Just like that. I beamed with pride at my man doing manly things that I am clueless about but may learn some day because it is fascinating.

We loaded up, turned on the Odyssey. No more lights. No more rumbling. I looked over at my husband, providing and getting his hands dirty for us and smiled.

It may not be a big thing, but it was a whole lot of everything in that moment. It cost us a whole $10.59 for that part. I just wanted to share that amazing part of my day, and the gratitude I have for that man and the tender mercy from God for giving him to me and helping us out in these moments. Moments that stress out us mere mortals.

Hi Becca! What a lovely post! I am like you, these things amaze me, even with my very basic knowledge. But I'll learn!

Hubby thinks it is Cylinder 2 and a spark plug needs to be replaced. "you can do that?!?" We have been married 20 years, and I didn't know this. What a guy. My guy. Taking care of things and bringing hope to this crazy wife of his.

Isn't it the most amazing thing when they do this??? Oh, men don't know the charm they have on us sometimes, am I right?

I just wanted to share that amazing part of my day, and the gratitude I have for that man and the tender mercy from God for giving him to me and helping us out in these moments. Moments that stress out us mere mortals.

It's beautiful to see you happy. Just as you're grateful for him, I hope he is twice as grateful to have you! Thank you for sharing.

He does love me probably twice as much, and I count myself blessed. I am really blessed especially at this stage in my life when I am pulled in so many directions. He is patient. God knew the kind of man I needed at 20, at 40, and for who I will be at 60+. It is amazing how these little things impact us.

haha, he looks seriously chuffed with himself. What a saving grace! Just takes a bit of knowledge and a lot of effort...and some teamwork hehe ...well done you two. Hubby and I play tag team on these kinds of things too hehe. I'm usually on youtube or reddit looking for solutions and reading them out to him...he puts them into action !LOLZ. So my hubby did a similar thing a couple of years back with one of our cars. The dealership said it was uneconomical to repair and would cost at least £1000 to open her up (they suspected a blown gasket due to all the smoke that suddenly started billowing out). They reckoned it would probably run to £3k by the end and given this is our older vehicle ...a 2004 model ... they were like...nah...give it up... and nudge nudge wink wink come and visit our sales team!!! ugh! anyhoo, we went to see if we could trade it in "as is" on another vehicle somewhere else! They offered us £600. Hubby was like noooo freakin way, I just put 4 new tyres on this thing. The tyres and the alloys alone are worth more than that. So he started digging in the engine, found a leak in one of the pipes, cleaned it up, and taped it (i kid you not!), then he pulled out the oil filter and washed it in dishwashing liquid, and left it to dry. Stuck it all back together again...literally 😂and she hasn't smoked since!!!♥️🙏😁 He loves that ol' car... an old Beemer... says he will run it until it dies a natural death haha. Clever hubbies we have, hey? 😂💗

Oh gosh! I love that story! He taped it?!?!? That is the best. I usually start googling and youtube right away. I don't trust mechanics and car dealerships. I can't blame your hubby, especially if you just replaced tires. Our tires usually cost about $800 when we need to replace them. It is so funny and also annoying how they want to offer you pretty much nothing for your car! I still can't believe the washing and taping. I am still laughing. That is awesome. You should do a post just on that!

That is amazing. We plan on running ours "into the ground." Ours only has about 85k miles on it, and will hopefully be our last minivan. We need it to hold 6 kids, but they are slowly getting older, so in about 4 more years, we might be downsizing!

Everything and everybody needs a check out or a service from time to time, weather it's a car, a house, garden, wife or just a very much needed quality time with the family. :)

Great to see you got a man that knows how to work on stuff and gets prepared. To make sure same thing won't happen again/soon I'd recommend changing all spark plugs, because if one was in this bad shape, others probably aren't too far away. (mechanic advice)

Rawr!

Good advice! I just told him, and he agrees. We will finish our roadtrip first and then see about doing it when we get back home.

Hello Becca!

One girl told me lately that I'm posting my articles without any communities.
It's a mistake, because Hive thru them work better.
Maybe like I just started- find communities that fit to Your topics, join and write in them?
It should provide with more followers and likes.

Cheers! With love, Monti 🙆‍♂️
