I again was invited to a new ship christening by my friend Karen who works there. I love it and she knows i always want to come and make pictures, eventhough the time and the baring 1 degrees Celsius would have been a great excuse to stay under the warm covers instead. But i set the alarm and took the camera and my gloves and went on my way. She arranged the time and a parking space so i was inside in a hartbeat. And at the head of this beautiful green ship at 07:35 I was in the hangar alongside the bough of the ship. I was next to the sailors who are going to work aboard the ship. They stood beside me in uniform with navy hats. It is a Belgian dredging company that has purchased the ship and will sail in the European seas. Christening was done by the wife of the director of this company, very nice and she did it extremely professionally.
This ship is a Tow hopper dredger baptised : Meuse River from the Deme firm from Belgium (disclaimer if the information is not correct, I wrote this down quickly during the explanation of the main contractor before the baptism by the director’s wife and I am not technically engineered but I hope I wrote it down correct)
The content is: 7900 km3 the ship is 115 long/tall, its 25 meter high from sea level. Depth under water is 6.5 meters and the dredging depth 35 meter. A Total of 16 sailors are going to work on the ship in the european seas and rivers. The building of this ship started on July 16, 2018 and the first dredging assignment will be April 1 next year. The final finishing and interior of the ship will be on water, outside the dock here where its build from scratch.

I think its special to watch such huge metal and iron ships float out of their dock. For me it was the second time i blogged on Steemit about it before. The job is also done by all the employees that are also present today with family and kids to watch their baby sink in to the water. They feel a jobs done and tomorrow they are of to make a new one. I think its great that they are all here and want to be part of the christening.
My blogs made in the past regarding this topic :
This was a great christening too, the ship was different but i fell in love with the warf, and all the works thats done.
Wikipedia is the source for the word ~CHRISTENING OF A SHIP~
Ceremonial ship launching is the process of transferring a vessel to the water. It is a naval tradition in many cultures, dating back thousands of years. It has been observed as a public celebration and a solemn blessing. Ship launching imposes stresses on the ship not met during normal operation, in addition to the size and weight of the vessel, and it represents a considerable engineering challenge as well as a public spectacle. The process also involves many traditions intended to invite good luck, such as christening by breaking a sacrificial bottle of champagne over the bow as the ship is named aloud and launched.
There are three principal methods of conveying a new ship from building site to water, only two of which are called "launching". The oldest, most familiar, and most widely used is the end-on launch, in which the vessel slides down an inclined slipway, usually stern first. With the side launch, the ship enters the water broadside. This method came into use in the 19th-century on inland waters, rivers, and lakes, and was more widely adopted during World War II. The third method is float-out, used for ships that are built in basins or dry docks and then floated by admitting water into the dock. If launched in a restrictive waterway drag chains are used to slow the ship speed to prevent it striking the opposite bank.
Due to the dock that is shaped long with only sliding doors in the water at the end on this warf all ships go into the water backward instead of sideways.
I hope you like my no knowledge engineer blog, and the nice ship video i made, let me know in the comments below.
